    22VE Prop Thread

    Hey guys;

    Sorry to start another prop thread. I figure the logic on this tends to update as people test, etc... So I have a 2007 22VE MP 340HP @ 750 MSL (So not high altitude). My current prop got knicked and I think I'm going to do the "buy new and fix as spare" process on it. So we do NOT surf a ton of weight (yet, I'm sure it's coming as the kids get older) and really spend most of our time cruising around. Big lake = lots of time on plane. We do casually surf and pull my kids on an unnamed inflatable pool toy that we all hate.

    Wake makers says to get a 1941 (14.5 x 15.5) for "general use", or the 1235 (14.5 x 14.25) for wakeboard/surf. What's going to be the major difference? We generally cruise 30-35MPH across the lake @ 3000-3700RPM with the stock prop. Should I be looking at some other size and pitch based on everyone's extensive experience with this boat?

    What's everyone's experience with this?

    The difference between the 15.5" and 14.25" pitch, is about a 400RPM increase with the lower pitch. The different between the stock (should be the 537 and the 1941, is likely a wash. The 1' drop in pitch is about a 300RMP increase, but then thats countered by the increase in diameter.

    If im going to be in the price point of a 14.5" prop, im not going to want one thats very close to the performance of the existing 13.5". Especially if im planning on being heavily ballasted in the future.

    If you are not exceeding the capabilities of the existing prop, and another prop strike is a very low probability, id consider getting the 537 fixed, then run it till you do start adding more weight and then begin to feel the prop losing grip.

      That's a pretty fast cruise speed. I'd first decide how much slower I'm willing to go while keeping the same RPMs.

        I'd agree with the above. If and when ready to start loading your boat down with weight the 1235 is a great prop and will provide a lot of bottom end torque. Until you start cavitating when surfing or can't get on plane wakeboarding you may just want to stay as is. I don't ever really cruise over 30 mph as the lakes I'm on aren't that big nor do I care about going that fast.

        Both wakeboarding at 21-22mph and surfing at 11.4 mph runs about 3200 rpm.

            What was your old prop just to compare to performance wise knowing rpm. Also I would not go lower in pitch if you cruise at 35mph, I rarely go over 22 just to keep the fuel down.

              1235 on our old '12 22ve and performed like a champ. we ran listed with the upgraded chp enzo sac and with 7 adults on board, never had an issue getting out of the hole.
              wakeboarding we would fill rear to about 600lbs, front full and again with several adults never an issue. no clue on rpm's as I never paid that much attention to it.
              boat had ex343 motor and would top out in the high30's at an rpm I was comfortable pushing the motor. I believe on a flat day no wind it would top maybe 41 or 42 but never pushed it.
              had the same prop on our old supra launch20ssv and our '14 z3. loved it.

                I should note the z3 evenly weighted for surfing and a full boat it did struggle to get out of the hole but we listed most of the time. if we were to keep pushing a suckgate likely a new prop would have followed.

                  Last year I was pondering what prop to upgrade to from the 537 on my 22v. Do I go with a 14.25 or 13.75 pitch and will I loose to much top end for skiing and giving up the possibility to barefoot? We went with the 13.75 pitch and am so happy I made the move.
                  I hated how the 537 cavitated even when pulling inflatables.
                  The maximum we may run at a cruising speed would be 5-6 miles and typically I run 28-30mph. Every once and a while I will notice my kids have us at 38mph. If I want to go fast, I just get on a jetski.
                  For me, once I got the new prop, the low end performance far outweighed the top end loss of speed.

                    So lots of goof info in this thread guys, I really appreciate it. So, knowing that I cruise at (lets say) 3500 RPM on average, moving to a 14.5 x 14.25 will push me to a ~400RPM increase to maintain the same speed per Mike, which equates to about 2.5-3 GPH in fuel (The "penalty") but gets me better pull out of the hole and better surf weight capability. This seems like a reasonable sacrifice unless I'm going crazy. I never really use the boat today at 4500-5000 RPM level speeds.

                    Seems like the right choice...

                    All you guys seem shocked I drive my boat at 35MPH...

                      I think most people cruise around 25 and only go faster if they have to, aka storm incoming lol.
                      I occasionally blast up to 38 (my top speed) but only for a second and only for the fun of it.
                      Everyone else in the boat is always happy around 25 if we have a ways to go, just more pleasant, better fuel burn, can't be in a hurry on the lake

                        We have a 2007 22Ve. Came with the 537. We swaped out for the 1235 which we always run. We boat at Lake Havasu elevation ~700’ and Lake Powell elevation ~3600’. I do not believe I can hit 35 mph with the 1235 although I cannot recall attempting as it would elevate the RPMs beyond what I am comfortable with for any extended time. Therefore if speed is what you seek, stay with the 537 as it will suit you until you increase sizeable ballast and such. We boarded and surfed with the 537 and we got better fuel economy with it.
