    Winterization

Going to do my own winterization this year on our 2017 Z1. Is it absolutely necessary to use antifreeze after draining the manifold etc.? How do you refill it with antifreeze? What all needs to be treated with antifreeze?

They make containers that hook up to your fake-a-lake. When the engine warms up open valve for antifreeze to go in engine until antifreeze comes out exhaust. Super simple

      to each their own..
that said since '08 all we have done is drain the water out and leave empty. stored in idaho in the garage and in wisconsin in a shop that stayed 40deg. never had an issue.
if I were storing outside in the elements I'd probably opt for anti freeze but inside most garages built in the last 30 years, even in wisconsin where we saw 100 days of temps never rise above neg10, the temp in the garage hovered around 40ish.

If you are still using a fake a lake that connects to the bottom of the boat do yourself a favor and throw it in the garbage. Then, either install a permanent hose bib of your sea strainer or get a piece of hose as shown in the picture and attached it directly to the vdrive where the raw water hose connects. I have a female hose barb on the other side to run the boat in the driveway. Or, remove the hose and stick in a 5 gallon bucket of RV Antifreeze and keep filling until you hear it splash out the exhaust.

RV Antifreeze is also good to keep the corrosion down in the motor, not just to stop things from freezing. My boat stays in my garage and I still run Antifreeze through it as cheap insurance.

I grabbed one of these for this year:
Plan to just fill it with antifreeze and run the boat until it's empty and be done with it. Screw all the draining and worrying.

For some reason the forum isn't allowing the link.
here's a picture. It's just a 5 gallon jug with a hose attached basically but it lets you run the boat on antifreeze Screenshot 2020-10-16 080327.png

I use the same thing. I cut a hole in the top so that i can easily pore antifreeze in while the boat is running off of it. It works great!

when running antifreeze thru the engine, does this suggest you're not required to drain the engine block? Assume not required or would defeat purpose of antifreeze.

Marine/RV winterizing antifreeze is intended to is intended to be used at 100%, so draining all the water is best.

2017 has a semi-closed cooling system and antifreeze is already in the engine.

With a closed cooled boat your just running RV antifreeze through the raw water system on the boat (intercooler, v drive, etc). You shouldn’t have to touch the Antifreeze in the block If I recall correctly.
