    Bilge Pump operation 22ve

We have a 2008 22ve, had quite a bit of rain over the past week or so and found the platform a few inches below water when arriving at the slip. Was surprised to see the water level over the bilge pump. Manually turned on the pump and ran for about 5-10 min then it turned off. Had to cycle the manual switch and it ran again. Is this normal, or is there an issue? I was thinking the bilge pump would continuously run until the water level was below the internal float level. Little worried the boat could sinl if it had sat a little longer. Thx in advance.

When manually turned via the switch, the float is bypassed, so the pump will run till you turn it off or the battery goes dead. With that said, the auto function of the pump should have come on. So there is something wrong there. The bilge has an inline fuse on the small brown wire, about 6-8 inches from the battery. Start there.

The brown wire should be hard wired directly to a battery positive, if it isn’t the auto feature won’t work.
If you don’t find an issue with the wiring or fuse you can also try cleaning the pump. Pop the pump off the blue base (which is screwed to the floor) and clean it. Over time gunk can build up in them and the float will stick.
You can verify the pump and float are working as they should by pushing the float up with your finger. The pump should turn on.
