    Tige/Indmar warranty transfer issues

I purchased my 2018 RZX2 last summer (pre-owned) from a large Mastercraft dealer in Lake of the Ozarks. I was unaware until recently that it was my responsibility to have both the Tige and Indmar warranties transferred (because the selling dealership is not a dealer for these brands). I was not informed of this by the dealership at the time of the sale and only recently found out after a year of owning the boat.

Perhaps it is common knowledge that it is the buyer’s responsibility to transfer the warranties. I had no idea.

So now I am in a bit of a bind for two reasons:
    1. Indmar apparently requires the warranty to be transferred within 10 days of sale.
    2. My nearest Tige dealer in PA has been unable to get Tige to return any of their calls/emails to find out how to go about transferring the warranty.

Needles to say I’m a bit frustrated over this.

Yep they are all (brands) that way unfortunately. Only one transfer as well so if you aren't the second owner it's a moot point anyway.

Depending on how good your dealer is they may be willing to file warranty claims under the previous owner to help you out, but barring that I'd imagine you're pretty SOL unless you fond someone that really wants to help and fudge some paperwork.

Yes, all Manufactures are the same way. You will need to bring your boat into a dealer to do the transfer too. Indmar needs engine readouts from diacom for warranty transfer.

Yep for my Supra they checked compression, fuel pressure, and diacom etc on the engine to do the transfer.

I've never quite understood that honestly.
It's their engine and it's under their warranty regardless of who the owner is.
I asked my dealer and they said if they fund any issue they would just file a warranty claim with indmar and get it fixed on the last owners warranty.

I think it is mostly a money grab from both Tige and Indmar. They will also charge you quite a bit to push the paper. I think it is usually in the 500-1000 range for most manufacturers and there is a separate fee for the engine and the boat. Every boat brand does it.

I hope you don't have an expensive repair that could have been covered. I think it is too bad that it isn't like cars.
            Be excellent to one another.

              I don’t have an expensive repair...yet.

Shortly after I bought the boat last summer, I had the typical Lenco actuator failures. Tige sent me two new actuators without verifying the warranty.

It wasn’t until my rear view camera became damaged (water infiltration) that Tige noticed my warranty wasn’t transferred. They said they would still send me a new camera. That was a couple months ago. Still don’t have the camera.

I also have a ripped seem in one of my subfloor ballast bags that I’ve temporarily fixed, but ultimately needs to be replaced.

I’m tempted to just trade the boat in on a brand new G23 and start all over. I’m not that far from a large Nautique dealer in Cleveland. I’m thinking if I buy brand new from a reputable, somewhat local, dealer I’ll have a lot less headaches down the road. I’m tired of not having a good local Tige dealer nearby and having to fix everything myself.

Understandably, a Mastercraft or any other brand's dealer, would not be worried about transferring a warranty for some other boat brand. I know it feels like they did you wrong.

Why not trade it on a brand new RZX2? Switching to another brand seems to be blaming Tige and Indmar for your used purchase from another brands dealer? Now, if you dont have a local Tige dealer, I completely understand, but why not a new Mastercraft, as that dealer seemed to do you a solid already on this Tige?

The whole not doing a transfer after a second owner kills me....especially with the way people are flipping boats right now. Just has a MY20 SL that was purchased in April find its 3rd home. Our service writer tried really hard to get both Skiers and Indmar to do a transfer (boat has 56 hours on it) on both warranties. Both said no way.

It’s not about Tige, it’s about the dealer. That being said, Tige just authorized a new dealer about 90 miles south of me within the last month or so. They haven’t sold any boats yet, but they’re a large dealership. I bought my first boat there several years back (Yamaha jet boat) and had a good experience. So realistically, I probably will trade my RZX2 on a new 23ZX after one or two more summers. I mentioned a brand new G23 above, but honestly the price tag is just ridiculous.

Yeah I passed on a good deal on a 2020 SA earlier this year because of the same issue. 100 hrs 2 owners but no warranty. No thanks.
I think it's a clever (and manipulative) way to get people into new boats rather then slightly used boats and to get people to keep trading up every few years.
                      No logical reason otherwise.

Why not jump into an aftermarket warranty? Wouldn't you have the option to take the boat pretty much anywhere?

That has certainly crossed my mind, but haven’t looked into it yet.

Anyone have any experience with aftermarket warranties?

aftermarket are not selling warranties but are selling service contracts. the laws will not be on your side with these as they are with a "true" manufacturer warranty. they call it a warranty but read the fine print. there's a reason these are a cash cow in the automotive industry and most of the ads for them appear on late night tv.

my only advice is if you have a breakdown, (1)you think your wait at a dealer now is long, wait until you are trying to get a 3rd party to cover the repairs and nothing moves until they say so and (2)that's only if you get it covered at all. lots of red tape....

I looked into it but there's a lot of fine print.

I spoke with a couple dealers who said they had not had issues with them but they are more insurance policies (service contracts) than warranties.

For instance the electronics part of the boat is only covered up to a certain dollar value (if i recall it was 5k) so if both of the screens in the supra screen fail, or a couple of JL amps, you're out of "warranty" pretty quickly. Same with engine stuff, there's a cap that's well less than a new motor so if you blow a head gasket no big deal, but if you toast a whole motor you're on your own.
