Jumping ship - Tige to Supra

I'm very close to trading my z3 for a Supra SL. I have loved the Tige family and this site has been awesome. My dealer is now selling more Supra's than Tige and I think I'm going to give them a try. I know this is a Tige site but I thought I would get everyone's thoughts. Any horror stories about Supra? Anyone have anything that might change my mind? Anyone that has had both and can give + and - about each? Thanks!

I have had the pleasure of surfing behind a few Supras over the last couple of years. They are nice boats, with great surf waves. It's the only wakesurf boat outside of a Tige I would own. I think you will be very happy.

supra makes a great boat. there's pros and cons to both but like dave said, you will be stoked with either.

I'd love feedback if you do jump ship. Our dealer just dropped Tige and only sells Supra and Moomba now. They are trying to get me in a new SE. I like the boats my only drawback for Supra is I really dislike their gelcoat scheme and color choices.

I'm in the process of switching to Supra as well. Hoping to sell my RZX and order 2021 SL. Both are great boats. I really like the way Supra's handle, I've had steering issues since day 1 on my current boat. I love Supra has subfloor ballast all through the boat, RZX has no bow storage and with PnP bags filled, no storage in the rear lockers. I like Tige single screen, gives great visibility while driving versus the dual screen on the Supra. I really dig the new RZX windshield versus the new Supra one. I also like Tige steering wheel controls better, although I have yet to try the new 2021 wheel that Supra just came out with. The new Supra captain chair is amazingly comfortable and comes heated standard which is nice for us northerners. The Supra bimini provides more coverage which is nice when you are looking for some shade, although it is a little tricky to get back into the boot when folding up to trailer. Sorry for the rambling, but hope this helps!

From a tech side and this is just my opinion....

Dual reversibles on Supra are sweet and are really fast, BUT you can only fill while running due to anp draw so you are counting hours while filling ballast.

Because of the amp draw Supra runs a 230A alternator. If you keep boat outside of warranty they are pretty expensive.

AutoWake is neat and does some cool things but sometimes it starts taking weight out when I dont want weight out. I tend to get the boat dialed and then turn it off. Coolest part though since MY20 is the line sensors know when bags full and starts auto adjusting timers.

The tower is rock solid. Have had some issues with limit switches but seems like its been worked out. Stowing the bimini and getting the cover on isn't super intuitive and if you dont get it right bimini can flop open in tower down position and damage dash and windshield. I started labeling the covers so customers can figure it out drunk and in the dark.

My BIGGEST gripe and its so trivial, it theres a stupid lip/step up in the glass at the helm. Its a toe stubbing mfer.

Dual screen is cool but invites more problems down the road IMO.

Lenco actuators are downside for me but they do fail less than on other brands because of their geometry on Supra.

Skiers Choice is a bit tougher on their warranty. Dealer has to file a claim, get it approved, then ship parts etc. I think Tiges easier to deal with from a warranty standpoint but both companies stand behind their brand.

The JL Audio is great stuff but they switched to DSP amps which was a bummer, and their RGB controller isn't as dancy as Tiges

Had one SL that was an absolute nightmare(alignment issues, bent strut when it was loaded, and then Indmar issues on top of that) but otherwise most their stuff comes off the line ready to rock. Most the time I find audio issues upon rigging and its usually pins not seated fully in Deutsch connectors(easy fix)

Thats most the stuff I see. They both build a great boat in my opinion. Both are running Indmar power and Murphy screens.

Supra makes a beautiful boat with a very powerful surf wave! So much of these boats are similar with them having the same engines, actuators, stereos etc it really comes down to the overall build quality and I think it's very fair to say supra builds a solid boat. Also if you already know the dealer and have a good relationship that is huge. Only thing I don't like about the supra is that you need add a lot of additional weight to get the wave to really kick.

That being said have you taken a look at the new 23ZX? It's a big jump over the z3

As long as you are comparing the SL to the equivalent Tige and not comparing the SL to your existing Z3

The JL amps are DSP, but they are open. Consumers can download the app and re-tune to their desire.

Dealer isn't really selling Tige's anymore so I'm not comparing. If they were, I'd be comparing the 23zx. I've owned two tiges and loved both. I do like the colors schemes better with Tige but the Supra's are sweet boats. I think both are probably very good boats and comparable in build and finish quality.

Sorry if I misread this statement. In my mind, "both" would be comparing the SA to what ever Tige is closest to the SA.

The reason some dealers that sell both Supra and Tige are pushing Supra is because the dealer makes more money when selling the Supra vs the Tige. I recently purchased a 2021 23zx Tige after shopping it against the Supra. One of the dealers specifically told me the "money" issue.

With that, from my research Supra is a great boat and well built. Most of the service managers I talked with gave good reports on both Tige and Supra. I went went with the Tige for several reasons. First was the dealer, other reasons - I like the Tige Clear screen and it's simplicity, the new actuators seem to be more robust, I preferred to have the extra built in with PNP, and the look of boat.

                        sales 101 right there.
managed a group of commissioned guys at circ city back in the day and salesmen will almost every time push what is first and foremost in stock and if 2 competing products, sell the one that pays them the most. saw it time and time again.

used to be a fun game us sales managers would play. jack up the "spiff" price on some open box item and see how long it takes the sales counselors to figure out their cut is 2x what it is on same item new. open box would be sold within the hour.....

Then that's a shady dealer. They should be selling you the best boat for you and your family, not the most expensive one that makes them the most money.

Sales 101 - Compensation drives behavior. An alternate view: I sell two products with similar price points, and similar performance, and I make 5% more on one. I'm going for the one I make more on. I think if we were agnostic, a Supra and a Tige in similar performance bands (ZX vs an SL or whatever) probably both perform pretty evenly.

Agreed they are pretty comparable boats if you put aside brand bias so if I were selling them I would try to sell the one with the most profit obviously.
