I've spent countless hours trying to determine what would be the best 5w-40 oil for me to use in my 2017 6.7l F350. The truck will be occasionally used to tow a 11,000 pound boat. My problem is that after reading countless engineering studies, reviews and recommendations from manufacturers I'm more confused than ever. I don't necessarily require any particular brand and the price is secondary compared to the engine protection I would be getting. I don't run my oil at extended intervals and I will be changing it every 5,000 miles. I believe in running full synthetic oil and I wouldn't have a problem paying for 100% synthetic if people in the forum thought it would be advantageous. So, what are your thoughts according 6.7 powerstroke oil?

IMO to justify the synthetic cost I run it in the winter here in Canada so I have quicker oil pressure on cold starts. The other way to justify the higher cost is to run the oil for a longer interval, I believe that is what it's meant for. In your case, I would drop the filter @ 5000 miles and run another 5000 mile interval. If that concerns you, you could sample the oil at the end of each interval to ease your mind. I had a Duramax once that knocked on synthetic so I always ran non. Regular oil if done at proper intervals I don't think you'd ever notice more engine longevity unless you were looking to keep the vehicle forever. However, that being said, turbocharged engines will always benefit from synthetic as the turbos are generally exposed to higher heat which causes standard oil to break down quicker. Hope this helps.2017 RZX3
