Slalom speeds (<20mph) on a SwitchV/20V porpoising issue

Hey everyone,

I have a 2004 SwitchV which we like to slalom behind. The issue I have is that the boat really starts bucking over 20mph if I don't have the taps2 set to 7. I have tried filling my bow bag (about 250lbs) which helps, but I still need to have taps2 to 5. Forget hitting a wave, the boat never seems to want to settle again. Any suggestions for this? It seems strange that Taps2 @ 1 is the "slalom" setting, but there is no way I can drive without Taps all the way down. Is there something I should check in the taps itself? could the prop be a factor? (I am not sure what prop is on it)

I may be reading this wrong, but by "all the way down" do you mean taps at 1? 1 is fully deployed which pushes the nose of the boat down. 7 is parallel to the water so the transom sits lower and creates wake for wakeboarding. My 22i will porpoise at higher speeds if I'm in the middle of the range but doesn't do it at 7 or 1-3.

Yep slalom should be with the tab all the way down, that will force the nose down and the rear up making the wake smaller. Should also get rid of the porpoising.
I agree with Mike above it likes to porpoise with it in the middle at higher speeds.
I'm thinking you're just interpreting the gauge backwards?

1 is tab all the way down, and 7 is tab all the way up.

just check it with the boat out of the water. 1 should extend the tab well below the plane of the hull, an 7 should retract it up above the running surface.

Hmmm, I am going to have to check to make sure my taps is working properly..... it definitely seems that it is working backwards then, as in my bow goes up with it set to 1 and goes down with it set to 7.

So what I should expect is that at slalom speeds, by moving the taps to 1 the bouncing goes away? That is definitely not the case, at 1 it bounces violently and at 7 it is smooth.....

I have a 2003 20V and had/have a similar issue. When I have my Taps at "1" the bow goes down. When it is higher, the bow moves up. I had a great deal of proposing originally speeds >19 and mechanic discovered the shaft of the Linco mechanism controlling the Taps tab was too short. We worked with Linco to get a longer shaft and the problem was reduced greatly. I still encounter some proposing at higher speeds/slalom skiing, but not terrible.

At 7 bow goes down

Definitely opposite of what it should be. Maybe just a wiring issue but if 7 pushes your nose down, that's where you should be to slalom.

Thanks mikemcclain8, I'll take a look at it, but good to know that its probably just wired backward. I was thinking I was skiing in the "wakeboard" setting (Taps @ 7).

id ignore the gauge for now. When you push the down switch, does the plate go down or up? The when you push the up switch, plate should go up. Could be as simple as the switch is rotated 180.
