Well apparently the packing blew out of my prop shaft seal yesterday. Boat has 108 hrs on it. Anyone else have this type of issue? The shaft is not centered in the brass thing that bolts to the hull. Could the engine not have been centered properly from the factory thus causing excess wear on one side of the seal? Or is that alignment even critical to the way the seal works?
The rubber boot is still attached to the brass bulkhead thing but the other end is loose on the shaft and can be pushed up and down as there is a good 1/4 around it and the shaft.
Also the shaft shows signs of where whatever blew out from up in the boat and the was slung off. Just slight scratches extending up into the boat.
Thanks for any and all help with determining the "Root Cause" of this problem! Cause I'd hate to have the dealer replace it under warranty then it go out again next year...
