Anyone have any thoughts on why actual trailer weights are not disclosed?

I didn’t even realize there’s a heavier duty, double axle trailer available. Guessing it’s pretty cost prohibitive. I’d probably go with Freeheel4life’s thought and beef mine up. Plus mine is a little banged up, from tire blowouts, which would probably Jack the resale up.

I’m a little surprised that’s all. I thought the boat weight is 6500. Guess it’s closer to 6k. I’ve taken some lead out, mostly because I’m sick of loading and unloading, I also throw some in the bed of my truck now. I should hit a truck scale, just to be sure.

They do not allow for additional weight that might become tongue weight and carried by the truck. Some trailer manufactures do this and it changes the number quite a bit.
With this set up, hooked to my truck, the tire load of the boat and trailer was 7600 pounds. So I had 1000 pounds of tongue weight. The trailer towed great and I never had an issue.

What I find really interesting is that with my new boat - an rzx2 on a triple axle trailer - the weights seem way off to me. The total weight is 8500 pounds. This makes sense as the smaller boat weighs 500 pounds less (on paper) but the trailer weighs more with the extra axle and two more wheels/tires. Loaded the same way as we always do, the tire load on this new trailer is only 7200 pounds. That’s puts 1300 on the tongue. WAY more than what would be needed at 10%. So I had 7600 being carried by four tires and now I have 7200 being carried by six. If you look at the trailer the wheels look almost funny how far back they are placed. I’m guessing the trailer is set up the same as a 3. They really need to move the axles forward a bit. Blows my mind.
I didn’t think about tongue weight, either. I think the tongues are rated for 750# max, right? Those numbers do seem a little off, off the top of my head. Even calling it 1000# on tongue, with lead in the nose, it still isn’t too far off the 8400#, although it sounds like it would be under that number.

Just remember, boatmate doesn’t let you subtract tongue weight from the gvw. Not to mention you are legally limited to the gvw. I can only imagine the pickle if my old trailer broke free of my truck hurt/killed someone. Then some fancy lawyer found it was overweight. My fault? Boatmates fault? Tiges fault?

            My fault.

This seems like such a dumb problem... there are 10k hitch pull trailers all over the place. If you are this close to the trailer max, why the hell are we using this trailer still? It’s an “option” to be a safe weight?

Seems like someone is being cheap here - is it tige or boat mate?

Brent, great question. Boatmate has a standard trailer that every builder uses for their boats. I’d love to know how the builder and boatmate put a boat and trailer together. Seems like mistakes have been and will continue to be made.

not sure if this has been posted or not. what intrigues me is moomba's mondo. the mondo is the boat they stick on a single axle occasionally. boat is 4000lbs dry per moomba. trailers show 4300 capacity as single axle. add fuel and you are over without any gear nor ANY options such as heater, tower speakers, sub etc.....

Yah. I mean. Put 7k lbs axles on the stupid thing and let’s move on with life...

What’s centurion going to do with their 26.5’ monster boat? Gooseneck? Lol

Centurion listed the ri265 as 6400lbs and 8000lbs on the trailer according to their website. Which we all know is far from accurate. Ri257s tipped the mid 9000lb mark on a trailer.

Pretty sure Fineline is still using VM for their trailers??? It makes a lot more sense as VM is just south of the factory in Fresno. Whole better that getting trailers shipped from Tennessee(Boatmate)

90% of the time they have Extreme trailers and some dealers will opt for Boatmate. Honestly haven't heard the best things about extreme, bad paint that rust and axles going out.

I’m actually curious why everyone stopped using Magnum here in Austin? It’s like 2 hours from Abilene...
