This is just a PSA to all those that have a boatmate trailer and to shed some light on a frustrating situation that continues to compound with issue after issue. Here’s a quick synopsis of what I’ve had to deal with since day one on my custom fully upgraded trailer. Ill attach pictures for each issue.
Day one of getting my custom ordered boat and trailer, it arrived from the factory in Texas to me in Nashville, TN after being pulled by a hot shot driver. It did not ride on a flat bed, it was towed to me so it already had 600 miles of wear by the time it arrived not to mention this was in February when roads were covered in salt. The trailer arrived with multiple paint chips all over it and the wheels. Boatmate’s resolution? They sent a can of spray paint for one side and entirely new fender for the other side. Nothing done about the wheels that were chipped.
After about 1,000 miles of trailering that summer, I had a bearing explode on my trip out to AZ. I had a local MC dealer help me and they replaced the bearing. Boatmate told me they would reimburse me for the labor and parts. They sent me an $83 check for the parts and nothing for the $150 in labor. On the way home from AZ, another bearing exploded, ruining one of my wheels with paint chipping. They sent two new bearings (one to replace the one that was fixed by MC dealer since it was not OEM) and two wheels since both were trashed after two different bearings busted. Fast forward to this year and I have had two more bearings explode. Note that none of the bearings have exploded on the same wheel, it’s been a different wheel each time. I’ve been waiting for 3 weeks for the new bearing to arrive and communication has been silent. I’m sick and tired of them trying resolve the issue with just sending out a new bearing. Something else is clearly causing an issue here and they just patch the problem instead of diagnosing and repairing. That’s not it though, just two weeks ago I was traveling with the boat in tow and realized my trailer brakes weren’t working. Pulled off to find my caliper was hanging down in the road snapped in half because the bolts holding the RGB wheel light rings in place had backed out, snagged on the rotor and ripped everything off. Boatmate has sent another caliper, rotor and light ring. I say all this for two reasons, I’m looking for anybody out there that has had boatmate issues and feedback on how their situation was resolved and to also to shed some light on just how bad my trailer has been. Issues just keep happening and honestly get nervous to look at my trailer each time I tow it. Boatmate trailers seem to be built well and they are clearly reputable since most major brands use them but my trailer is a lemon and it just keeps getting repaired over and over. I wish the lemon laws applied to trailers or boatmate would own up to this particular trailer being junk and replacing it.
