Time to replace Bunk Boards on my trailer...anybody using Ultimate Bunk Boards?

Bunk boards are worn out and it's time to replace. Currently have the carpet wrapped wood and was considering the Ultimate Bunk Board.

Is anyone on here using these for their heavier wakeboard boats? Would be concerned about lack of friction when towing and possibly scratching the hull when loading/unloading since they are not protected by carpet.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

this stuff looks to be a knockoff of trex decking.
for the price they charge you can build a LOT of carpeted bunks and not sure I would want my hull running across that. most here have to winch up the last few feet due to the shallow ramp and don't know how good that would be on the bottom of the boat. and not even getting into the discussion that trex requires joists closer than wood so not sure it would hold up to the weight of a boat on a trailer without the added spensive metal rail setup.

I haven't looked at the bunks....but if they are anything like Trex then I wouldn't use it. Have seen someone use Trex and watched the boat slide off because there's very little friction compared to carpet. Was almost like watching a roller trailer.

Thanks. Those were my concerns and just doesn't sound like it's worth the extra $ nor the risks.

Do Gatorbak Bunk covers. They are awesome, installed on my boat trailer last Spring

those gatorbacks are a much better option than the ultimate trex knockoffs BUT still a grip of cash for something most only do once or twice over their ownership of a boat.
iirc I was right at a benjamin to do our z3 trailer. would have been pushing $500 to do it in gatorbak.
intriguing option if you are one that is planning on keeping the boat for 10 years+

Yah, I’d argue this is a situation where the way we have always done it works fine. We have a 25 year old boat trailer and we have only replaced the bunks once. Use good carpet that has some UV protection on it and treated lumber and stainless or galvanized hardware.

Your right that cost is higher for the Gatorbak, I probably spent about $550 cause I replaced the 2x6 PT bunk boards and got new galvanized hardware. A big reason I didn't want carpet is cause I have a black hull and the carpet catches debris from the lake and collects it.... even floating the boat on/off the trailer, it was scratching the crap out of my hull. Then of course carpet stays wet for up too 3 days since I keep boat/trailer in a detached garage I built. The Gatorbak drains the water immediately and no more scratches on my hull. I do plan to keep my boat/trailer long term too

Justification. I love it. Maybe the old way has flaws too...

Any problems with the color rubbing on the hulls?

I would stick to carpet. Have heard too many stories of the plastic rubbing the gel coat off.

Gatorbak is sweet and that's what I would do if I trailered frequently. I'm a twice a year guy so carpet works just fine.

Installed Gatorbak on my trailer style dock lift 3 years ago... no issues and MUCH easier to load/unload - multiple times a day during the season.
