All about practicing over and over again. Take the time to go out on a quiet day, perfect the backing up skills and practice slow tight turning on the boat.

If it makes you guys with the wives who haven’t quite mastered it yet feel better, you aren’t the only ones out there. A very good friend of mine runs a very successful and crazy busy wakesurf school in the Okanagan and I normally spend a few weeks a summer getting some coaching myself and working for him. The one that amazes me is the wives that will hire us to come out for the afternoon just so we can drive the boat or even just drive it up onto the lift or boat valet. Okanagan can turn into a nightmare with waves and wind in a split second so ids understandable but still...

The truth is, I don’t know what situation other people are in. I don’t want to know. As long as my crew and craft are not in danger, I try to avoid fixing stupid. That road is a dead end.

I am with ya nicky on this. I find myself getting frustrated at the beginners at the ramp and the clueless nature of sucking up all the space and I try to temper it BUT I keep thinking that when I was a noob at the ramp back in '07 I took someone with me that knew the ropes until I was confident AND drove to the furthest ramp from town knowing we would not be "that crew".

it's not just the beginners tho and I have tried to remind myself that here in the southwest no one gives 2 $hits about anyone else and it's all about me me me.

can't even count how many times I see people launch a boat and park at the dock at callville(it holds 4 boats maybe) and sit there for 20 or 30 while the rest of the crew trickles in. how hard is it to not launch until they are there, or go park at the other docks where the store is. common sense but that's long gone here.

I'm lucky that my dad taught me the boat ramp etiquette when I was young. Before I move off to college the trailer would be in the water less than a minute and then we would pull up to as far as needed to finish securing things down.

I'm even more lucky that my wife can launch and put the boat on the trailer. I am still amazed to this day she but the boat on the trailer perfectly in a sudden thunderstorm with close to 30mph cross winds. Though in a pinch she can back the trailer too. All in all I probably have 500 launches and my family is close to 200.

My family made it a game to have the boat on the trailer, strapped down, unloaded and back at the house before the TAPS plate retracted automatically. Really fun to watch the jaws drop of other boaters when we make our quick escape.

Though one thing that I have started doing is if I see someone struggling, I offer to help in a way that they find me useful to getting the trailer into the water. One wife without even a thought jumped out of their newish F-150 and said yes please. Later the husband gave me a big thank you, which I hoped I helped keep their marriage lasting just a little bit longer.

I had a lady ask me to back the trailer into the water once as well....

Speaking of boat shop. At the launch a few weeks ago in kelowna there were THREE trucks from one dealership in the water, while the three drivers get out to drive the boats over to the dock. I know the launch is there to use for anyone in line but just the fact they all had to go at the same time with nobody to drive the boats.

It’s always nice when someone offers to help I was taking the ladies out for a surf set the other morning. None of them were comfortable driving around the dock so I was the one driving the truck and the boat. An older guy asked if I needed a hand, greatfully said I was okay as the 4 lane launch was empty but offering was very nice thing to do.

A couple days ago we were out for an afternoon run. Got the boat ready and got in line. The guy in front of us came over and said that since he had two jet skis to load that we could go ahead of him. I thought that was awesome. We were out of his way in two minutes.

Upon return, we had to deal with some jackass in a new MB, surfing maybe 50 yards out right in front of the ramp with lightning moving in fast. I was big fan of jet skiers that day and once again disgusted with a surfboat owner.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

As long as he can back a trailer and GTFO of the way, then he can pull it with a lawnmower for all I care

A while back we were talking in house about our previous lake test person. He did lake test for 8+ years so we were guessing he himself tested over 10,000 boats. Most of that was him by himself. It's crazy when you start adding the numbers up like that. He is a great resource who can tell me how every older boat performed and what their little issues were.
                                Oh Yeah!
