First boat. What should i look at to make sure the boat is good?

This will be my first boat. We have two jet skies and are looking for a boat. My kids really want to wake surf and im trying to find out if this would be a good boat to get.

I read some where the that this boat has wood stringers and that is not good but i have no idea what that is.

I wouldn't worry about the stringers.

Look at overall condition of the boat as an indicator of how well it was cared for.

Make sure the TAPS pump works *plate on the back goes up and down and the gauge works when you push the bottom*

Check the oil level, check the transmission and Vdrive fluids and make sure they aren't milky.

100% Insist on a lake test, don't buy a boat without it. Note how it drives, any strong pull one way or the other etc.
Engine should run smoothly no hesitation etc.


I'd say that boat will be in good shape, I see no modifications, no ballast and no tower meaning it's likely just been used to tool around the lake.
Price is good, but you will need a tower, ballast pumps and ballast bags and a wake shaper to surf.

I highly recommend the Monster MTK tower. (about 2k for the tower and the bimini)


Ballast bags and pumps will run you from 500-3000 depending on whether you want to plumb it all in and use nice fast pumps or throw a pump over the side to fill.

I guess you don't "need" the tower to surf.

Looks like the rear tower bases may still be there but hard to tell.

Try to start with a dry bilge on test drive and note if its taking on water. Prop shaft seals are a likely culprit at this age.
