    Bear Lake, Id

    Hey guys;

    Going to go spend a weekend up in Bear Lake. Tips? Tricks? Probably renting a boat one day (Mine is cozy down in Texas) - and probably just a simple 'toon. Looking forward to exploring, maybe swimming, etc.

    Appreciate the help guys!

      Just keep an eye out for the afternoon wind. Can get rough sometimes.

        Especially if thunderstorms are brewing out on the horizon. There can be 7-8 foot waves that seem to come out of nowhere, but were in reality brewing an hour beforehand. It is a big round lake with lots of space for waves to gather steam. Beautiful blue water.
        Be excellent to one another.

          I would second/third the above, the wind can get crazy in the afternoon so just be careful. The water is gorgeous but it's also cold!! And make sure you get a Raspberry Shake in Garden City!!

            Appreciate the tips guys! Will be on the lake from 11 to 5 - hopefully we avoid the worst of the wind and stuff. I noticed on the map that there was no where to hide if it got bad.

              Spent every summer as a kid up there. Family still has a cabin on the east side. Afternoon winds are a given. Get the sets in early and relax in the afternoon. Sometimes it calms down for some amazing evenings.

                We have spent a week there the last two years and it's awesome. Water is beautiful. We stayed in condos right across the highway from the marina in Garden City, Utah so easy to get in and out of the water.
                We did find it a little warmer water and little less wind going more towards the Idaho end and little east as well. It is a large lake so hardly ever saw another boat around.
                There are a few places for milkshakes there. La Beau's, Zips and Tasty Shack (or something) like that. Got to get a different one each night to see which is best!
                Zips has great food and Summit pizza is really good as well. Crepes & Coffee is a great place for breakfast.
                The Minnetonka Caves were awesome to go to. Suggest pants, shoes and light to mid sweatshirt as it is 40 degrees in there.
                We never made it to North Beach since we had our boat but it is supposed to be awesome. Have heard that it can get full up there though so may be a good idea to go early in the day.
                There are a bunch of large fish at the marina in Garden City that you can go into the shop and get food for them if have kids that like to feed fish.
