    Installing surf tabs

Thinking of installing surf tabs on my 2006 24ve. Does anyone see any reason why I couldn’t just buy a pair of the $600-800 Bennett tabs as opposed to getting the $4000 go surf assist system? Also I’ve never used a boat that has these systems I’ve always just snapped on a wedge to the side. How do they work? Do you put the surf side tab all the way up and the opposite side all the way down? Lastly what is the difference between the surf gates and having the tabs?

    Thanks

I’d suspect for the time, effort and $ you might be disappointed....if you wanna go best value route just buy GSA plates for $1500 and actuators for $300, then figure out a way to control them....
Looks like you can get controller for 150. Only issue might be getting consistent deployment angles...

go over to wakegarage.com. I spent quite a bit of time over there researching tabs for our old z3. there are cheaper ways to go than the gsa but it does require some time on your side so figure out what your spare time is worth and whether or not gsa price makes sense.
I was planning on using gsa tabs, picking up some bennett rams and making the electronics to control it all. there's enough support on the garage to help but it's not turnkey.

Sandm, how do you like your new R23 with surf tabs? We really like the listed wave with diy suck gate on our 22v. I have also been thinking about buying GSA.

Although the concept is the same, I do not think a standard trim tab will yield the same results as tab design to be a surf tab. Seems that the size and shape of the surf tabs are part of the equation, more then just a metal plate drug in the water. Look at everyone's surf tabs, even the aftermarket, none seem to be simple plates.

Yes, deploy the tab on the off side.

I am assuming chp is right since tige swapped in 20 from simple tabs to gsa. skiers choice are using some multi adjustable ones as well that have 2 pieces per tab.

cucv, haven't even got the boat wet yet. just delivered this week monday and starting break in on saturday.

Tige never had simple trim tabs that I ever saw.

yes, chp, you are correct in that tige prior gen tabs are not a "simple tab". I use the term "simple" as there's not a lot to them when comparing to gsa.
it's a flat tab that they bent a 25ish deg bend and a lip. $20bill and 10 minutes in front of a brake at my local hvac dealer and I could churn those out all day long.

Reproducing the copy does not account for the R&D into the original design. Reverse engineering the GSA tabs would be just as easy.

A lot of the brands worked WITH Lenco to bring tabs to market and if you look closely you can find Lenco part numbers lasered into the stainless. Even on MC Gen2 plates.

Lenco actuators take in water. Period. They released a new version that MC is using that FINALLY has a sender so it knows how much it has actually deployed/stowed. Lenco got bought by Brunswick Corp. The same people that bring us Bayliner and Heydays. Just replaced Lenco on a 2 yo G23 and they live INSIDE the boat. Best part about Lencos IMO is job security.

The move to Parker/GSA was a great move for Tige. Less warranty claims/payout and better longevity with surf settings that aren't as variable.

To ArizonaLaker, pretty sure dakota4ce put GSA on his 24ve after he listed it for a while. There should be a thread if you search his posts. Long story short is square plates like Bennett offers just induce roll/list. They do nothing in the way of delaying convergence/crabwalking the boat down the lake.

                        .
Do you know if the new Lenco actuator can be used on the older boats? I’ve only replaced one set but they’re far from accurate in terms of deployment.
I wish tige gave the option in the software for the surf tab auto retract to be turned off similarly to centurions always being down. Would love to benefit from faster wave formation and the same results every time, obviously there are drawbacks to this.

I dont think Lenco has made them available YET. MC loves to make deals where they get exclusivity on a part with vendors. This usually expires eventually. Cool feel vinyl from Spradling is a perfect example.

You could try contacting Lenco directly and see. Only other problem would be software to integrate them to a touch screen. You would likely need a standalone controller and gauge(s) to benefit from the new versions capability.
