    Acceleration sound

New to Tige. Have a 2016 R21 with 6.2 L raptor 360. The boat makes a turbo type sound when accelerating. Is this a normal sound.?

Sometimes the belt will get wet and whine a bit. Try lubricating it to see if it helps

Thanks for responding. Doesn’t sound like a belt or squeal as it does it all the time. Sounds like a whine of a turbo.

Does it continue at speed or go away?

I have 2018 z3 with 400 and yes sounds like a turbo wine. It’s not a belt and not sure what makes the noise but it’s a high pitch just like a turbo when I give it a good push of throttle. I know what you are talking about. Maybe it’s the tranny but maybe others know. Friends Malibu has indamar 450 and doesn’t make the noise. He always comments when on my boat.

My 2019 R23 raptor400 does the same....normally up around 20-25 is when it starts....it really stands out when you lay into the throttle for hard acceleration at those speeds. The boat I went on the demo before buying did the same....

Thanks for all the responses guys. Was really worried and wanted to be proactive if something needed to be done. Had a direct drive for 20 years and never made that sound. It does sound good just a bit odd is all, and first time owning a vdrive. Great boats though

One mechanic was talking about misalignment but I feel no vibration and all fluids look good and clean. It could be the way the gearing is in them.

Alignment won't cause vibration, it just puts stress on the drivetrain at a constant angle. Bent shaft, coupler issues or a bent prop cause vibration.

Ok could mis-alignment cause the turbo whine I am hearing?

From all the posts I've read on here about it it's just gear whine from the trans/vdrive. A lot of them have it and some of them don't. Hasn't seemed to be a problem.

My Walter vdrive had a similar whine, I replaced the whole unit rather than rebuild and it's quiet as a mouse now.

I have no idea about the 16s but i just bought a 2020 r23 and it made the same noise. I posted a message and others had similar issues, said more than likely the velvet transmission and they put sound proofing around the area of the transmission and motor area. I followed their advice and it made a huge difference on my 20 model.

if i can find the link i will post it.

I thought i would give my 2 cents on how i fixed my whine.
