So I was doing some research on the catalyst engines that are beginning to need exhaust manifold and riser replacements. I recently had to perform this task on a pair of 8.1 Volvo's and wanted to share the costs with everyone for comparison. Nearly $24k for maintenance items!!!!!!!!!!! Part numbers have been included for price look-up. Yes, the boat is used in saltwater and to further exacerbate a crappy design, Volvo uses aluminum exhaust manifolds with seawater running through them. My take away from this; do not buy ANYTHING with Volvo Penta in it. Flame on compadres!!!

Dang Boatwakes. That is pretty insane!! We finally dropped Regal so arent seeing much newer Volvo just your typical older GLs and GXi type stuff thats developing age related issues. The GDIs that Volvo went to are definitely absurd. Have seen a fingernail size piece of impeller plug the cooling line to their super expensive combo fuel pump setup that killed the pump. That is another BS racket right there(Im sure you've been down that road on that LP/HP combo assembly)
Do the upper riser parts that house the cats come with the cat brick in them?? -
Almost get you a brand new 300hp Verado outboard for that price man. Lol
Our old Volvo 5.0 efi seems to be running fine. I guess they dont make em like that anymore.
