Trailer winch

I've read to get one that is rated for 1/2 the weight of boat?
I only see them up to 1800# and the one on there is rated for 1500#. My boat supposedly weights around 3000#? 2001 21i.

Because these boats are on carpet ie the trailer is mainly dunked for loading, I do not believe that is the case. As for mine, I only have to winch about 4 feet worth and sometimes less. I have a 1500lb winch and it does well.
