    Lake Powell suggestions

We are considering dragging the boat from Texas to Lake Powell for houseboat trip this summer. We did it back in 1982 and I really don't remember any details other than it was amazing and I want to get my family out there...
    Appreciate any guidance/suggestions such as:
Where to rent houseboat? Houseboat size recommendations for two families with 10 people total? Are more deluxe houseboats worth the extra money?
Itineraries for either 5 day or 7 days on the lake? Can you see the whole thing? Stay to the north or south?? Depends on where you put in?
Places to eat ? Places for groceries or pack it all before you get there?
Any challenges with dragging a boat behind the houseboat?
    etc...

    Really appreciate the help!

Super fun and worth it. You're right it is amazing. 82 was a long time ago.
You will launch from either Wahweap or Antelope Point Marinas. I am more partial to Antelope, but either will work. Would go at least 7 days. 5 wouldn't be worth the drive. In 7 days you can see a lot of it, not all. You for sure want time to chill as well.
The more deluxe boats are usually larger. Larger is better for two families.
There is a Super Walmart and a Safeway supermarket in Page, AZ for groceries.
I don't know the rules for rental houseboats about towing your ski boat(s) behind. It is possible if allowed.

So I thought this was a very interesting post. Your question got me to googling because this sounds like an awesome vacation, to say the least. It involves a Tige. And towing at Powell. And some bad luck. Not to be a downer, but it definitely is a good reminder!

That is amazing story. Your 2020 23ZX will be fine. In has a much higher bow. They have deepened the cutoff now so you don't have as much traffic through the narrows. It can still be crazy at times though. Kind of washing machine like waves. You can always drive your boat through that section if it's rough. Some will send the ski boat ahead to scout out a beach/camp spot for the houseboat.

What timeframe are you looking at?

Thanks so much for the information...
We haven't really researched it much, but thinking late July / early August (not sure if houseboats are even available??)
We went back in 1982 when I was 20 years old pulling a 1980 closed bow ski supreme... Talk about a low bow!
            Appreciate everyone's feedback...

I launch down by the dam, at this point in my life. I’ve spent more time putting in at bullfrog. IMO the true beauty of the lake starts around Dangling Rope marina and north. It’s all beautiful but I love the towering red cliffs plunging straight into the blue water. The green vegetation and ‘blue bird’ days are making my mouth salivate now. Not to mention the stars at night!?! SOOOOOO many stars!!
Powell is amazing. I’ve heard, when it’s at full pool there’s more shoreline at Powell than eastern coastline of America.
My favorite time of year to go is September and early October. The water has been getting warm all summer, the daytime high temps aren’t blazing, but still plenty warm, and you’re also off peak season, crowds and prices!
