    Spare Tire Carrier

It is time to add a spare tire to the frame of my Dorsey trailer. The trailer frame is 5"H X 2"W

Here are a couple of links to products. Anyone use any of these? There is a fairly large difference in price, but it is tough to judge quality over the internets:

I just want something that works, but that also will not fall apart or fail for that matter. Also, what is up with the offset. How much is needed??

    spare tire

if you have room under the bow on top of the trailer and you happen to have a cross brace there, all you need is a piece of allthread cut and bent to fit then a piece of flat plate, nut and washers and your done. Thats what we did. Now the tire is centered on the trailer and looks clean and the boat would never hit it, even if it did, it's rubber!

Aren't you worried about hacking your trailer all up? It sounds like that is an easy and cheap way to go about it though....

Maybe I will head to Home Depot to see if I can piece something together. I have to get there anyway to get parts for a fake-a-lake.

      Thanks for the suggestion!

If you get a chance, could you please snap a couple photos of this showing your mounting hardware etc. This sounds like a very interesting solution.

clear rubber hose slid unto the all thread with some holes in it to let the water drain, protects the trailer from any scratches. I'm headed over to get the boat now so I'll snap some pics.

I have pics of spare tire set up in member gallery. Three pics. One showing location on trailer up under bow, then two close up shots of the device.

Here is a link to the bracket that 2whln is speaking about. I had my old trailer this way, but I don't have a pic here at work handy to post.

actually, I made mine out of a piece of all thread cut and bent to fit.
You can see it in the pictures in the galleries.

I just saw your pic, took me a minute to find it. Looks good, same concept just cheaper then the link I posted which is what I like. The only difference is the link I posted has the ability to lock it if you are worried about?

i have the third one that you have listed and i like it. it is at an angle so it keeps it away from the boat. then i put the tige cover on it and it looks pretty nice.
