Free On-line Boating Course

This may be common knowledge, but I though I would share this information. In NC there are new regulations going into effect May 1st and this course appears to meet the requirements. It may also entitle you to a discount on your boat insurance. Otherwise, other on-line courses are charging $30....this one's free if you print your own certificate. Check your own state to see if it is approved.

After May 1, 2010, every person under the age of 26 must complete a NASBLA approved boating education course before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater in the state of North Carolina.

This maybe a dumb question, but I have my cert. from Florida. Will I need another for NC? I do see Fl on the list.

You won't need anything if you're over 26, but the FL should be fine if it's NASBLA approved.

Great site. Any word on if AZ is going to do this? To be honest, I wish they would. Some crazies out at the lakes here. Ive gone through the course a few times, get to the end with the open ocean **** and never get to actually taking the official test. Planning on getting it done after finals this semester (done next week, and home to the lake!) and actually get my cert.
