    Towing Question on the RZ4

Hey every one in new to the forum and to owning a boat... I'm looking to buy the RZ4 when it comes out. Now my question is about towing. I have an 09 Range Rover Sport Supercharged would I have any problem with towing the boat I know it can tow the weight but can the wheel base on my range handle the RZ4?

We tow ours with a Nissan Armada, which isn't a real long wheelbase. For the short distance towing we do to Mead it isn't a big deal. If we were going to be towing hundreds of miles, it sure would be nice to have a longer vehicle.

What kind of distances and terrain would you expect to be towing?

        Jeffe - that's not towing. That's hauling.

        Nice setup, BTW.

I towed my RZ4 with a full size Range Rover HSE and the wheelbase was not awesome and the motor was a dog. Keep in mind, my elevation sucks the power out of a vehicle and a supercharged would have been the difference I needed.

With a RR Sport the wheelbase is considerably shorter, so the tail may seriously wag the dog. The motor is not an issue for you. The only great thing about the RR is that they can crawl up the most slippery ramps you've ever seen. I would constantly pull my RZ4 up a ramp that all the trucks around me would be spinning their wheels to get up. That's one upside...

The wheelbase on the full size Range Rover is 113in and the RR Sport is 108in. In all honesty, a 108 wheelbase is going to get tossed around by an RZ4. I sold my Cayenne Turbo because of the wheelbase, which was only 112in - my wife bought the rover without talking to me first, so we used it as an interim tow vehicle. That's the second time she's done that to me, previously it was a BMW 545. For those of you who think your wives are nuts, mine takes the cake.

I'm not trying to start a debate with this next comment...

If you don't want a diesel truck, I think the best bang for your buck is a Denali. It's got the big 6.0L motor (400+ HP), it's 5k less than a caddy, the motor is bigger than a regular Tahoe, they have tons of nice features, and they look cool enough. I bought my 2nd 2007 Denali a couple months ago, we only use it for hauling toys and going snow skiing - it's our battle wagon. Throw some 24's on it and you're good to go.

Nope, just untie the ropes and back down the ramp really, really fast and hit the breaks. Getting it back into the truck is a different story. That is unless you have one of those truck/sub conversion kits installed.

I'm not much of a help as far as the tow rig (I use an 09 1 ton dually), but would definitely like to welcome you to the board Both my wife and I are Sun Devils, her '03, me '02

It's going to be a rough ride if go long distances. I just did my first road trip of a couple hundred miles with my RZ2. First time the wind blows hard thorugh the cuts in the mountains or you hit ruts in the road the tail certainly was wagging the dog. We drive an '07 Navigator. You will certainly wish you had a longer wheel base for the towing. As for whether or not it will get the job done, I'm sure it will.

                    Bill,
Here is a link to a recent post on towing capacity etc...

                    http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11926

I think your RR will be able to pull it and stop it but you gotta worry about cross winds and the guy who pulls out in front of you all of sudden. You can always do what I did, buy a boat and then use that as a reason to buy a bigger truck/ tow vehicle.
The link on the website above to

                    http://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-p...hicle/gcwr.htm

will give you specific numbers on the RR and RZ4, but by my calculations you will be right at the maximum gross combined weight rating with your boat and RR. Again it all depends on how far you have to go, hills, etc...
