Summer Obsession,
I have a spare prop and needed it in June while on a week-long vacation. I am glad I had it. The repair shop locally 'fixed' my damaged acme prop and it then rattled almost as bad as when it was obviously bent. I sent it to Vegas and just recently got it back. I was 2 months without it. I'm glad I had a decent spare.
When I get the 'refixed' acme prop back it still has a subtle rattle to it. Most people wouldn't notice it, but I do. I think it can never be perfect again.
I think if you look at the bottom of the boat, you'll see that the tracking fins sit higher than the prop and rudder, so they really aren't a very good shield for anything. With a litttle bow rise, they especially won't protect you. I, in fact, hit the rock at idle speed. It was just too deep for the tracking fins, but not too deep for the prop.
