I searched for other threads for this but didn't see any, sorry if this has already been posted. I've been looking at upgrading and have decided that Tige is the best fit, it's down to a Z1 or a 20v. We are limited to 21' length and 100' beam max and between the two I'm leaning toward the Z1 (Alpha tower, surf ballasts, LCD dash). I like the space in the bow and cockpit vs. the 20v, the Alpha Tower and a few other things seem "better" than the 20v. Also the price difference isn't much.....

Any thoughts?

Ride them both and go with the one that best fits, as they are both great boats. Sounds like you are leaning towards the Z1 anyway. IMO, it's got one of the best out of the box surf wakes.

One thing to look out for when considering different models: Tige is not consistent with some of the features they put on different models. For instance, the shape and configurations of the lockers, how they open, how the seats open up, how the bow seating is configured, where the handles and cupholders are, etc. These are minor details, but they can make the difference when wavering between two models. Before settling on the R2, we initially were debating between a Z1 and 22ve and found many differences between the two. Some others were size and shape of the swim platform, ballast options, and I'm sure there were others. The two biggest considerations for my wife were the double hinged lounge seats in the Z1 and RZ2 and the chase lounge type, forward facing seats in the bow that some have and some don't. You will have to pick the model that has the most details that you like. It is about much more than look and length.

I looked at a used 20V and a new at the time 09 Z1 (October). I went with the Z1, Alpha Z Tower. Just a little bigger overall. Only had it out 3 times, but love it so far.

if your finances can afford it go bigger you wont go I wish I had a smaller boat.

Thanks for the great feedback, I agree that size is important but so are the other features. Heading to the dealer Saturday to scrutinize everything one more time; then make the final call, negotiate price and if all goes well place the order.

I have the 20V and have no regrets. We normally have 1 person in the bow and 2-3 in main cockpit of boat since our extended family has so many boats.

Items I dislike on my 20V is no grab handles in main seating area and no built in cup holder for driver. The bow is great for kids but if your over 5'4" it is tight up there. The Z1 bow is a tad bigger but its rear storage area is slightly smaller than the 20V due to the activity center. The Z1 also has less standard features when I looked at one. Things like depth gauge and a couple of other items. Both are great boats in the small footprints they have. As mentioned drive and ride them both and if you can board and ski behind each.

The #1 thing I think the Z1 has in its favor is the Alpha Tower. From what I know it is easier to lower and raise vs the tower used on the 20V.

What about the teak vs. fiberglass swim platform? It's a little pricey for fiberglass and it doesn't seem too tough to keep the teak looking nice.

u will always be working and oiling the teak. If you can maintain it religiously it's great, but if your careless, then it's work. You will oil it at least 3-4 times a year, depending on how much you use it. I love teak... but I'm not sure I'd get it again...

I hope the six week turnaround time is close to being legit, I can't wait to get on the water!

I just bought a 2009 Z1 also, I love the style of the boat as well as it does so many great things on the water. not to big not to small. Welcome to the club! What Colours did you go with?

Pacific Blue, Black and Frost. Too funny we live in the same city, the guys at Hyperactive are great to deal with.
