What is the difference between taps and taps II?

I was just wondering what is the difference between taps I and taps II? It seems to me like the boats that I have seen that are labeled taps II have a single ram on the plate and my boat that is labeled taps has two hydraulic rams on the plate. Is this more a function of the weight of the boat and design of the hull or is it more to do with the set up that runs the ride plate? Does taps II maybe use a electric actuator instead of a hydraulic one?
Just curious! Any info on what years they came out with what might be usefull to a new owner or buyer!

There are others who know a lot more than I do, but I am always eager to open my mouth (too eager!). The TAPS1 uses 2 hydraulic pumps, and the TAPS2 uses 1 electric pump. I'm not sure why Tige switched, although I hope the TAPS2 is more reliable.

taps 2 is a electric worm gear. taps is hydraulic. the taps 2 is faster, has a computer that controls the gauge and can be programed to return to a given position after "x" amount of time. this can only be done during manufactuing of the computer. taps is quieter than taps 2. recently tige has gone back to the hydraulic system but with only 1 ram.

How recently? Any reasons that you know they did this? In my 2005 22v - how can I tell what do I have?

Also, I noticed that in my 2003 22v the taps plate always went 'up' to the wakeboard position when turning the engine off. My 2005 does not do that? Is this by design or do I have an 'issue'?

I see that it is as I suspected, and each system probably has its advantages and disadvantages.
smendez you might make sure that you dont have a small leak somewhere that is allowing the plate to go up. I was getting that with mine and it would seem that the hyd cyls have springs in them to pull the plate up and pressure drives it down from the pump. I had a small leak at a hose coupler, easy fix. Another cause could be a leaky solenoid valve inside the pump that could cause you problems on the water. Unless of course your system is different from mine (02 21v taps I)

I would suspect that starting out in slalom position and moving to wakeboard would be easy on the taps II system but going the other way at speed would work that actuator pretty hard. If I had one I might limit my putting it into slalom to slower speeds.

walker, taps 2 goes back up when engine is off. ??? why but my best guess is default setting in absence of electricity vs plate safety...

My understanding is that on the electric version of the TAPS, it goes to wakeboard position when off as a way to self-calibrate position with the gage.

The hydraulic version on my '01 had a few troubles from time to time, while the electric system on the '04 has been flawless. I am one for continual improvements, but changing back and forth every couple of years doesn't inspire confidence.

Paublo, I understand the reason for the returning to wakeboard position is to calibrate position with the guage as well.

I agree that changing back and forth does not inspire confidence, especially since I have on of the 05 with the electric version.

The unit raises up about 5 minutes after turning the engine off. The kids hear the noise - I tell them that the urine sensor just went off and they need to fess up. I always get a kick out of that.

I'm a little confused. My 03 22v has a single electric actuator, however I thought the TAPS II did not come out until 2004?

My understanding was that the TAPS II also had a little larger plate than the TAPS I.

i'm affraid y'all are reading too much into this taps I vs.II thing. both systems have their own +'s and -'s. just be glade you bought a boat with this awsome feature.
as for switching back and forth, it drives me crazy trying to keep up with their mid model year changes. imagine trying to stock parts and keep track ofwho's boat has what
