    Boatmate Trailer Spare Tire location

Can't find the picture now... but I saw a boatmate trailer on here with the spare tire located underneath the boat as opposed to mounted on the left side (looking at the boat) by the bow roller. The spare tire on the boat and trailer we just ordered is on the left side by the bow roller, but I really like the look of the spare tire mounted underneath the boat.

To whomever had it mounted this way, was this something you did, or requested when you bought your boat/trailer?
    or
Is this something dependent on the model of boat sitting on the trailer?

Yep, sure do! IMO that looks so much cleaner than this...

yes but it's a big PITA when you have to change a tire on the road.

Isn't there more of a chance of it getting stolen in the 2nd pic? And how often do you get a flat? I need to get a spare tire also. I like the mounting of the first pic but have the same concern as G-Money, with it being a PITA.

I would guess that the bracket is custom. I do not recall my trailer having that bracket underneath the trailer.

I tried to get an undermount on my Extreme Trailer but I didn't pay for all the welding and re-painting so when I tow I throw the spare in the back of the truck and get on with it.

The tire in the 2nd pic could get stolen very easily because there is not a lug lock on there. I have one on mine and no problem to date

Ditto with PIA. I had a single axle with spare at nose under boat and when I blew a tire on I44 it was more than a PITA to get the spare out on the shoulder of a busy highway. I put on an aftermarket sideloader after that experience and 2 years later on a 95 degree day boom I lost another tire and was thankful that I spent the $70.00 for the side loader. It was not pretty but pretty dooesn't cut it when you need the darn tire.

My Extreme trailer has the undermount style, but it is hinged to allow the bar on which the tire is bolted to drop down for easy access. That solves the PITA aspect of getting it out easily. I'll try to remember to take pics this weekend of the setup.

Luckily, I guess it either came standard on the trailer, or else my dealer had them add it.

SportBoat Trailers have the undermount rack as well. Now I just need to get a spare to put on it!
                      Ambivalent? Yes. Or Not.

Sorry it took me this long to take pics. And yes, I know it isn't parked on the concrete drive strips. My dealer dropped it off at my house after some service. Blame him for the parking job.

On my last boat I had the spare mounted right next to the tongue jack horizontally on top of the beams and it did not get in the way of the boat. That worked good also.

I do need to get one though. Anbody know a good source? Was just gonna steel my buddies, but didn't think he'd see the humor.

I like that setup on DB's trailer!
