I understand your explanation, but in terms of cars/trucks which I consider myself somewhat inclined, I don't quite understand what's different with a boat.
A $20 fuel pressure gauge will help pin point if there is a leak down in the system, but it takes a bit of understanding to know how to narrow it down to which component it at fault.

There's very little differences in a boat engine and a car engine other then a few things that make the fuel system safe for use on a boat. Other then those, the basic operating principal is the same. The boat engine use the same sensors, injectors, ignition system, etc, as are in use, or have been used on cars.

I think I'm going to take it out this weekend, run it and then take it in for some preseason maint. Impeller, oil change, etc. Also I had this prob at the end of the season where boat started first turn of the key off the trailer and ran fine, but if we parked, swam for a while and the tried to start it, it took quite a few times to get the engine to turn over. Never quite got to the point where I thought I was going to have to start looking for a tow....but pretty close! Wasn't a battery problem either because it was a fresh battery. Anyone have any similar experiences?
        .
Not sure if this is even an issue with the older boats, but make sure that if you are listening to music while swimming around, that your key is in the acc position. If the key is left in the "on" position (at least on my 2007 24Ve), the pumps will not prime when you go to restart the boat and it will take longer for it to fire. Doubt this is your problem, but just something I have noticed over the years.

Well, it's 9:18 in the morning and no news of an explosion in the local lake yet. I can probably say he is safe in his boat today.
