    Lifetime Ban

Ok, Im sure I deserve what's coming to me after this post, but here goes....first year I owned my 2000 21v, kept in garage, wasn't winterized due to a whole list of BS excuses. 2/3 tank of gas left in the boat, kept the battery charged however? Should i try and take it out and run it, or take it straight to the shop for lack of winterizing? How should i expect it to run, or what should i expect the shop to do to it? Is the gas going bad the biggest concern? Go easy...

The first question I would ask is, did it cold enough to freeze your block? If not, I would suggest adding some fresh fuel and try to start it with fake-a-lake on your driveway.

Might also try some Stabil for Ethanol. Double dose. Might help even though it needs added before storage. How long has the gas been sitting? If 3-4 mos its borderline quality. If longer - gas might be breaking down and u might want to siphon out. If it got cold enough for freezing outside, was the garage warm enough to prevent freezing? U have any ballast? if u had a hard freeze then balast hoses or pumps might be shot from ice expansion. Good luck.

If it was kept in the garage, IMO you are okay with the engine not cracking. However, the sad news is that Capital Water Sports is no longer in business. I do have Pat Kelly's phone number if you want an mechanic that is certified on Tige engines to look at your boat. Pat was the service manager at CWS for awhile. He will charge a very reasonable rate and will come to your house.

        His number is: 916-402-5130

No need for a lifetime ban..

As long as your block isnt cracked you will only have some gas issues.

This was my experience yrs ago when I had my 01 21v.. first yr kept in a warm garage (warm was key) didnt winterize it.. has half tank of gas.. didnt stableize it. not the best but... sat for 5 mo... in the spring.. Filled the tank full with supreme and ran fine.. Maybe not the best thing but Came out fine.. Good luck

Thanks everyone for the info. Last time the boat was out was mid-october. The garage stays fairly warm since the house somewhat surrounds the garage, my guess is never cooler than 50ish so i wasn't too concerned about freezing, just the sitting idle for months. My main concern was the quality of gas, buid up in the lines, etc. due to the gas sitting and the quality of the oil. Think its to late for the stabil if i plan on launching it this weekend?

Da.Bell, thanks for the info, i might just give him a call. I also want to have some other work/upgrades done. I thought about trying San Ramon Boat Center in Rocklin, but got a little nervous when i asked the guy about installing perfect pass and he said that they've only done a few of them and were having trouble getting some of them dialed in.

Add a bottle of stabil, top off the tank and go run. I doubt you will have any issues.

. To siphon the gas out on mine I use a 5/8 hose (cut on an angle)... the tank hose has got a 90 deg turn at the bottem. I also put a bit of gas on the hose to lube it up before I stick it in and it takes a few jabs. I think a 1/2 hose fits inside a 3/4 inch hose and that allows it to get by the 90 degree turn too

Not sure when it was ran last, but I'd change the impeller too.

I would not do this every year but I doubt you will have problems if you do this. You may want to consider an impeller change.

You may want to either change the oil or put in oil treatment to deal with any moisture in the oil. In damp areas of the country with a motor not run for a while the oil can pick up moisture also.

Depending on how many hours I had on the oil when winterizing if oil was relatively fresh I would put in the treatment for the winter and change oil after the first time out with the boat.

My I/O mechanic reccomended this to me years ago. He always had me deal with lower unit grease but would change oil after being in storage. I do the same thing on my Mustang.

He also had me spray the block with an antirust treatment when I stored it in a barn. Since I store in my attaced garage now which did get a hard freese it is optional since the humidity in my garage is significantly less than a barn or other un-heated un-insulated area. Typically the garage is 15 to twenty degrees warmer than outside where the motor is.

Fuel stabilizer will not bring old gas back to life. It makes fresh gas last longer. Get some fresh gas and check the impeller. If an impeller stays in one position for too long it is most likely toast.
