Just finished the process of of buying a new boat here is my take. I looked at all the boats and found that its just as much as preference as brand. they all make great boats and all have pros and cons but I felt after checking all the brands that my two picks were a natique and tige. master craft was ok but I didn't feel the quality demanded the price, malibu wife just felt they looked too 80's on the inside/outside...lol and supra's style just didn't fit what we were looking for...quality etc..
that just my opinion based on the last three months of research and testing driving.
I look at that clip as positive advertising for Tige. If Tige was not viewed as a viable alternative then the clip would not be needed. My extended family has a 1999 Maristar 230, an X2, a Supra and my 20V on the Inboard side. We also have a 23 ft SeaRay and a 22 ft Mariah.
Each of the boats were bought to meet the needs of my brothers and my cousins. None of the boats are cheap boats and in their market niche each has it's strengths and weaknesses.
Are not all boats a copy of some boat?
One invented ballast, one a tower, one a ski pole, one a trim plate, one a wedge, one a rear platform and now is the battle for electronics technology, at the end of the day its what fits you and your familys needs at an afordable price.
I thought that Mastercraft claiming that this is a new design was funny. The first pickle fork design on a boat was in 1949. There were two boats that showed up for the Gold Cup Hydros with the pickle fork design, "Skip A Long" and "Etta". The fork design has continued to be used ever since. Sanger used the design for it's jet boat boats through out the 70's and 80's. There was even a jet ski company that used this design (Wildcat) in the 90's.
Mastercraft claiming the design is like me claiming P & J just because I put it on a different type of bread. Sorry MC, it wasn't your design to start with...
Something funny was happening while that video was made and has grown since that time.............Mastercraft's use of a trim plate. Yes, the very plate that they make fun of in the video, the very one that everyone from the CEO all the way down to MC owners has bashed Tige for using in order to counter "a poor hull design". Well, I guess MC finally realized their hull was "just as poorly designed" as Tige and they needed to have one.
Kinda like the pompous arse neighbor that made fun of the new garden tool you just got. Said it was gimmick, wast of money, didn't work right, blah blah blah, then next weekend, you look over the fence and see that he now has one. When asked, he has to make up a reason he has it, but claims its a brand new original design, not at all like yours, works better, cost more, and if yours looks like his, yours must be the copy, even though you had yours first
Well, cant find the Tige v's MC about the trim tab.

I still find the humor in that video even though its a pretty low blow, and I am a die hard Tige fan (maybe not enough to get a tramp stamp tattoo on the small of my back, but close). If you get a chance search You Tube for the Malibu and Correct Craft spoofs, they are just as funny.
I guess the saddest part is Mastercraft showed us that they really do think they are that wonderful. Maybe that video propaganda made the manufacturer and owners feel better about themselves, or maybe it sold some boats, who knows. More likely it made them look like pompous asses bagging on their competition. Maybe they should have concentrated on making less videos and concentrated more on the fact that their "incredible leading edge technology", "original revolutionary designs" and "flawless reputation" was literally hours away from filing bankruptcy.

You have to take in consideration who the intended audience is. It would be a safe bet to assume a novice boat buyer. With that said, whoever wrote the script is extremely talented. The objective of marketing is to reach your audience with the hope that the the message has an impact on the prospective buyer. What's the message? To create doubt in the competition. I would give these adds a score of 9 out of 10.
