    2007 Tige 20V vs. 2008 Tige Z1

Hi all - new to the board and possibly will be a Tige owner in the near future. I posted this on WakeWorld and figured to get a more comprehensive comparison here.

Finally sold our boat, and now looking for a v-drive. Ran across these. We want to stay in the 21' range so we can store in garage. Our previous boat was an 07 Moomba Outback, so I don't know much about Tige boats other than a little I've read on here. I was hoping someone could compare these two for me. Main use would be boarding and surfing, but we are looking for a boat that handles chop better than our Outback did.

    The 07 20V is 36k with 85 hrs.
    The 08 Z1 is 44k with 31 hrs.

What are the pros and cons of each?

    Thanks in advance!

Where are you located? Both boats seem priced high in my opinion. I really can't comment in the 20V except for it fells really small to me. The Z1 however I really like and almost bought one in 08 for $49K. The Z1 is the first Tige boat I ever drove and loved it, if it were not for my wife wanting the 22ve I would have bought it.

The Z1 has a wider beam than the 20V. The 20V is 96" while z1 is 102". Both boats are Marine Power typically the 5.7L 340hp EFI. The Z1 has a slightly larger bow area but both the 20V and Z1 have small bow areas and seating is geared for the kids more than an adult.

The cockpit area I think are very close in size and the Z1 has the activity center which I believe reduces the storage space on both sides of the motor.

The Z1 has newer lines and was introduced in 2008. Both boats will handle moderate chop but both ride rough in heavy chop. Speed and economy are almost the same between the two.

The 6" Wider beam does make the cockpit feel bigger but the butt space uses the same layout. The 20V I think has a better looking dash but that is just my opinion.

When I bought my 20V I knew the hull design went back to the early 2001's with minor changes and based on reviews and rating for 2007 20 footers the 20V caught my interest.

We bought ours at the end of 2007 after spending 2 hours of driving a demo 20V in both skiable and heavy chop. It handled better than a Mastercraft 20 footer and at the end of the season we were able to get a great price out the door.

Both are nice boats but the Z1 styling is a little more up to date.
I might have considered the Z1 but it won't fit in my garage. I would recommend that you get a test ride in both of them and develop your opinions. As to price in the Midwest both of the number are $K-$K high.

If I was buying again and had a 21' limit I probably still would go with the 20V. Too each their own.

Love my 20v but I have never been in a z1 so I can't compare.

          Small correction, Z1 has a 100" beam.

              Dom,

Is that the green/white/black boat on your website?
It is a sharp looking boat.

I like the lines of the z1

My question is did you think you had enough room in your last 20 footer? you may want to consider the bigger boat. Also reports on here are that the z1 is a better out of the box surf boat.

ride in them both on the lake and make your choice from there.
The Z1 is a front runner in my next purchase, but that is just my opinion and fits my needs best.

I have a 08 Z1, love it. Its 1 ft longer then the 20V. Puts out a rediculous wave if you weight it right.

Guys thanks for all the replies. I'm in Houston, and one of the boats is local and the Z1 is in Austin. I'm not opposed to traveling for the right deal.

From what I'm reading I can't go wrong with either boat. Looks like I will need to schedule some test drives and go from there.

These boats do not come with ballast, correct? Neither state that they have ballast.

I'm guessing that if they don't list it, it doesn't have it. But, who knows? The definitely caqn accomidate it; that's for sure.

If you don't like Dom's there is a really nice (repo?)black and white z1 available at the factory. Call your local dealer for price.

Tige offers ballast as an option, so it would be up to the dealer, or customer ordering one, to include it on the build sheet. So, they may or may not have it. If not, sacs can be purchased and filled manually or a complete plumbed-in system can be a DIY project.

One more question - anyone know the exact height of the 08 Z1 with tower folded down? I need the highest point - looks like my garage opening is right at 83.5". Really trying to avoid storage at all costs.

Be careful - the overall height could vary slightly based upon the make of the trailer.

It can also be modified slightly. I know that MoneyPity had his trailer modified to lower the height of the bunks some.

I just bought an 09 Z1 in October from Texas Tige north of Houston. Check those guys out if you have not yet. texastige.com They are great, best guys I have dealt with in buying our boat and I shopped for close to 2 years. We live in the southwest side of the city.

20V vs Z1 - I looked at both real hard. I chose the Z1 because it had more room for my crew of 5-8 people. The bow of the 20V seemed way to small for me. I was comparing an 06 or 07 20 V to the Z1 that I purchased. If you have a small crew (5 or less) and want to save a few bucks get the 20V. I love my new Z1 but only had it in the water a few times. I got the Alpha Z tower so I can't help you with height. I keep mine in storage on the east side of town. kvon - Kevin has a Z1 with the tower you speak of and may be able to help wit height, I believe he keeps his boat in his garage.
