    Gas Springs - How Heavy

    Hi All-

I have a 2000 21i and the 20 lb. (two of them) gas springs are not strong enough to hold up the ski storage area/sun deck. Any thoughts on how much I need to go up without going too far?

    Thanks,

    TigeDane

The gas springs wear out over time, easy remove and replace job.

Get same lift capacity and stroke length, use old ones for reference.

I have the same boat and I replaced my two seasons ago. Hope that helps.

I jumped to the 40#s cause I kept getting smashed on the skull with the door. I'm glad I did. 20#'s were BARELY enough.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Goose69 - did you go with 40# as well. Not that I don't trust you Jason, but I gather it depends a bit on how close the spring is mounted to the hinge.

          Thanks, all!

No, it doesn't matter. Get the same exact lengths open and closed. The wieght is a totally seperate parameter on the strut. You still need ot to be the same "size" as the one you took off.

I use the boat in a lot of rough water and the 20#s kept falling down....40# MAY not be the right one for you...kind of a personal decision you have to make. Hope that helps a little bit though, without muddying the water anymore.

x2 for the 40#. IMO those areas should have had 40 pounders from the factory.

If 20lb supports came from the factory and worked fine then, then I would hesitate to go with any stronger, especially 2x more. I would worry about the added force pulling screws out.

Check out these folks, made right here. They are OEM for a lot of manufacturers.
