Wow You Wont Believe What Happened - Orlando Boat Show!!!

Hey guys i am new to Tige Owners, I am Tony Forte form Forte's Inboard Connection - Sales.

Anyways Dom and I decided to go to the Orlando Boat Show to see how it was turn out wise. Also we decided to check out some sales tactics of all brands. First we started at the Nautique's We were not repin our dealership with shirts or anything just went in as father and son looking at some wakeboard boats. i went in and checked out all the models in and out not one sales man came to talk to us. so decided to go to Master Craft this is where i was blown away.

So first off they have lost there minds with the pricing in there, 2010 X-2 SS $72,000.00, anyways i am once again in and out of every model and for 20 mins no salesman....dom my dad decides to leave and i have now made my way to the X-55 which was a mind blowing $111,189.00 boat show special!!!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!! HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD, I GUESS MY BANK ACCOUNT NEEDS TO BE ALSO!!!! So i am done looking and out about to leave i finally get approached by what i am going to go ahead and say the worlds worst salesman.

He says are ya in the market for one of these (puts his hand on the x55) i say ya but not for 111,000.00! He says Oh Well believe me its worth every penny. i say how? He says nothing i respond again with is it the fridge the toilet? i am pretty sure i could go to sears and and get a $200 mini fridge and throw it in the rear storage of my RZ4 and it wont be any where near 111K! He says well you dont understand most of the people that buy these are driving Bentleys. I said oh so is that who you market too??? He says yup pretty much. Not only is MC Held to a Higher Standard They Also Hold The Buyers To A Higher Standard!!!!!!

He then says let me put it to you this way... it would be like you pulling up in your souped up honda civic next this (x55) Lambrogini this pops! i said Well i have a 600HP Mustang not some busted civic but ok. He said you wont be losing any money with this!! i said what do you not know what is going on in the real world right now??? I said what is book on these??? How about an 08 X45?? (i recently sold a 2010 RZ4 over a new 08 x45 for 72,000) he says idk. I said its 57,000. he goes probably. I said so how will i not lose money if its over there for 70 or 80? he says well book isnt what we sell boat for that just what banks look at. i say Well if the bank is looking at book and the boat is 20k more then how am i going to get finaced????????
He says well most people that buy these put like 30 to 50% down or just write the check. I say oh well ok then. The urge to just slap this guy in the face was building up so much i had to leave and then he has the nerve to say well do you wanna get in it or anything? i said no i was laughing bye bye.

So apparently in order to buy a new Master Craft you need to have at least 2 homes that equal at least 15,000 sqft and either a Lambo or a Bentley for them to even consider selling you a boat.

All stick with my rice burner crushing Mustang and My Tige's.

Tony, what does it cost to put on a show with enough floor space to show 2 or 3 boats??

They had an x2 for 72,000.00, and my dealer had an 08 x45 for 72,000, when i sold the customer an RZ4 instead, because the x45 had a high retail of 57000.00, he would have been in the hole 20,000 before he left the lot. And this salesman in orlando was trying to tell me that i wouldn't loose any money buying a master craft which was 111,000.00. I guess they thing that the extra foot of 25' for a x55 is worth another 20,000.00

Just curious what the shows cost these days. Why spend all the money for a show and have sub-par sales staff.
Our local MC dealer refuses to take a loss despite the facts. He'll be sitting on that X45 another year and still demand a profit....I'll put $20 on it. Dom was wise unloading his 07/08's inventory when he did.

Our local B'ham Boat show is $2.65 a square ft. I'm sure the MMMA shows are higher than ours, 10' X 10' booth space I belive is $700.00 now, a dealer can fit a boat in 2 or 3 booths if there isn't small space available. We had five less dealers this year at our show, but there was Tige,CC,Mastercraft,Moomba,Malibu,Centurion on display.Several dealers downsized this year and flipflopped their space around from years past.We still believe in our local show and have supported and displayed for 39 years.

If I had an X55 I wouldn't miss my Coblat 250. Like having the best of both worlds. The x55 is 20K over priced because someone has to pay for the new molds, design and engineering. which boils down to the first 100 buyers. I doubt an X55 wouldn't fetch $65K after 2 years and 150 hours.
                Just my

MCs have never appealed to me in any way at all. I have nothing against the brand--just don't like the looks or the tools who typically drive them around me (gross generalization that does not apply to every owner, I realize that). I would not consider one unless they were SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than a Tige or SAN.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

i would have kicked him in the nuts... its hard enough for me to afford what I got... im lucky with the boat I have let alone some stiff with 120,000 to "just write a check"

There were 2010 X45s on sale at the boat show in Portland for 72K. No wonder you can't sell an 08 for that much. You are asking too much. Why would you try to sell a boat for 15K over book value? I guess you are doing the same thing you trash the MC dealer for doing...The pot is calling the kettle black here.

I don't want to start any angry discussion, but I can guarantee you that an 08 RZ4 has the same or lower book value as an X45. Just making sure to compare apples to apples here. And if you shop well, you can find they are about the same price new, not the overblown price you saw.

It seems clear that the sales people were idiots. I think most any dealer will tell you that they never know who has the money and will pull the trigger when they first see them. You have to treat every prosspect like they might just pony up full cash price for your product, even if they don't look qualified.
                        Be excellent to one another.

After the newness wears off....a boat is a boat is a boat. And if the pot is covered up with a full sunbralla cover....it will put the kettle to shame.

Tall your right but Dom would not be trying to sell a boat over the current book on that boat for the year it was made. Thats the point. When Dom was selling his left overs he took his hit for them being a year to two years old. Our local dealer was trying to sell the 45 as if it was a brand new boat. Its an 08 so no longer worth what you could have sold it for in 08. So yeah the RZ would be depreciated but Dom would have not sold it as if it had not. Thats the difference.
