    Painting KMT6s...

Is it possible to paint the KMT6s? Anybody done it yet? What primer and paint did ya use? Can they be taken apart to paint the outer shell or did you just have to do an amazing job of taping off around the grill and stuff. I am wanting to go with either white or blue like my tower. Any help would be AMAZING.

Try sending a PM to username philwsailz - he works for Kicker and is on this site regularly. I think he may be out this week, but he would probably reply by early next.

      Petrey-

The KMT6 is glued and screwed together. Some folks have managed to take them apart without destroying them, but lots have been broken in the process, unfortunately.

The horn cannot be removed, so you are still looking at an amazing tape job, so my best recommendation is to tape off the mids around their edges, tape off the horn at an appropriate spot, adn get busy spraying.

If you can get a good color match, go with a paint designed for plastics. SEM makes them, as well as Krylon Fusion and several auto parts stores even might have plastic bumper paint.

      Good luck!

X2 on the SEM brand, and get their primer also. If you have a body shop supply place local, they may be able to mix the color for you and put it into a rattle can, I have one that does. There was a guy that did his. He took them apart and said it was a pain, not to mention his paint job came out like @$$. I cant remember where I read the thread, either Bu Crew, Planet Nauty or WW

yeah it was planet nauty I believe... I googled it and saw the post... but to me it sounded like he didn't use a primer and primer is very important... And he used krylon fusion paint which might be of lesser quality.

DANG IT why can't Kicker make a white one?

o ya and phil i was just wondering why they didn't upgrade the grills on the KMT6... That grill style is an old one... I was hoping at some point they would upgrade the grill to look like the new coaxials.

Ok just had a thought anybody make a neoprene cover for the speakers?? Maybe I could get a blue or white one of those!!

I agree, it was either is choice of paint or lack of prep.
