Water pump - how long before it fails?

Wow...I hope those bearings rolled around on the shop floor, and weren't actually that dirty in the water pump. Those grooves look pretty deep, I still have a hard time believing that the rubber and sand could create such a groove in the pump housing. I would think the rubber would go first.
