Here is a pretty detailed thread on a Z1 ballast install by NHarp1:

Thanks, I think I am going to try and rig some pumps up over the side for the first year. Maybe build some water box or something... new to ballast but I have a vision, Is there a 12Volt plug in the back compartment? I don't remember.

IMO, the Z1 has the best out-of-the-box surf wake out there. I'm 200lbs and ride a CWB Tsunami 4.9, I was able to surf the Z1 with no ballast....none, zip, zero! And in the boat was the wife driving and my son taking pics. So, the Z1 doesn't need a ton of weight to build a nice wake, but the more weight, the better/bigger. There are lots of Z1 owners who could share their setups as they have far more time into dialing them in.

For yours, without factory ballast, a single Fly High W707 sac would give you almost 750lbs in the rear locker on the surf side.

Sweet looking orange and black by the way

For the factory ballast, a W701 V-drive sac would be an additional 400 lbs on top of the factory 250lb tank.

Good looking boat, I know the feeling, just got my 09 Z1 in October. In Houston Texas you would think I would've used it more then 4 times but nope, pretty cold here this winter, relative of course. I can't offer any setup tips, I am still working on my own. I do have the factory 600lbs ballast though.

I changed my bimini to the extended version for more coverage. Good coverage but the front end lips up unlike the standard top.
