    DIY truck bed coating?

Anybody used any of the truck bed coating products out there? How is it holding up? I just don't want to spend the $400 the professionals charge. If anyone has done it can you post some pics.

Be prepared for a mess. It is not as easy as the commercials would lead you to believe. You will have crap on your hands for several days.

Some things are just worth having someone else do it who does it all the time. Truck bed linings fall in that category.

Get it done by Line-X and you will have a lifetime warranty on the lining. Gouge the lining by throwing sharp steel in the bed and Line-X will fix it for free.

I sprayed my own with a special gun like Line X uses. It looks decent, has held up decent, but it is NO WHERE NEAR the fit, finish, or quality of my last bed that was line-x'ed. I wouldn't do it again. I paid about 125$ for the spray and the gun and it took me about 2 hours to do.

Don't do it. Save for it if you have to. You will NEVER get it as nice or as thick as line-x will. There is a huge difference in quality. Maybe find someone else who wants it also and ask for a deal??
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

kudos for lineX, I had my truck done a few months ago, very satisfied and well worth the money
The guy doing the application told me they spray it hot, therefore it dries very quickly, which prevents drip marks and also allows you to get a uniform thickness on the vertical surfaces.
Hope that helps in your decision between DIY and line X

I had a friend who rolled his truck with some stuff from Kragen....not sure what went wrong, but it looks like SH!T! I would way 60% of it looking like crap was operator error, he probably didn't take the time and proper procedures when putting it on. But the other 40% is just a sub par product.

After a year it looks even worse! Parts have been rubbed through so now he has a spotted white and black bed...good think its now his rock crawler so who cares.

My pick up has Line X (bought it used) and I really like it, it looks great, except where I spilt oil. One thing I would think about is getting the bed rails coated or not. If you ever think you are going to put a shell on your truck I wouldn't recommend it. Mine has the rails lined and I've tried everything to seal my shell, and it only does a sub par job.

Personally if I could I would just put one of these in...

I had something like that in my old Chevy and I loved it.

Thanks guys. I guess I will be putting this off for a while as I would rather spend that much on the boat.

My dad did his own truck bed liner that was clear. He did it right when he got it so there were very few scratches underneath. He would sprinkle sand throughout the bed then spray a coat of poly urethane (I THINK!) over the top then do this again. He did about 4 or 5 coats like this then topped it off with another layer of poly. That was a sweet bed liner. We were hog farmers at the time and throwing bucket and other stuff in the bed, it never chipped or nothing. It was pretty sweet. The sand made it so nothing slide around in the back. It was very nifty but lots of prep work so I would pay the 400 bucks and get it lined by someone else.
