Anybody on here do their own upholstery? My father in law in in desperate ned of some new seats and I thought maybe we could do it our selves and save some money.. Might be a dumb idea but I might as well ask right?

I re-upholstered my 85 Mastercraft. It is a serious job! My mother (who is an amazing seem stress) and I removed the old vinyl, split the stiches and copied the patterns and reassembled with the new vinyl. I spent @ $450+ in vinyl, sewing needles, stainless steel staples and marine grade thread. I didnt have to buy any seat foam and reused the original which was in great shape. I did save about $1800 by doing it myself. You need a good heavy duty sewing machine and someone who really knows how to sew. I would say it took 50 to 60 hours of work. This was also a small classic 19' ski boat.
In the end, the project turned out better than what we ever expected. I only wish I had pics to share. Ended up selling to buy my first Tige. If you have the know how and time go for it.

yeah thats kinda what I figured... I googled it and the materials are expensive but you are still going to be saving a butt load if you can do it. I don't know if I do end up trying it for him I will definitely take some pics... if anyone has any tips on doing upholstery I would love to hear them. Thanks
