What's required to sell a boat in Texas?

I just bought a Tige 20V and need to sell my Tahoe Q4. Plan on doing it myself and am wondering what type of paperwork is involved. Anyone with any recent experience?

I've been a licensed dealer here in NC, and most states are pretty similar. For a private to private sale, you will need the title and sign it over in front of the buyer and a notary. Then have the notary do their thing. Buyer is responsible for tax, tag, and inspection if applicable. It's also a good idea to do a "Sold As Is" form that includes date, VIN, and mileage, that both seller and buyer sign and you keep the original if they want a copy.

It texas to sell a truck you just need to write up a bill of sale, fill out the DOT form and then sign.

also make them sign the bill of sale and get a copy of his/her drivers' liscense. You want to make darn sure you have all the documenation you can get so if something happens and the sale goes south you have your @$$ covered.

Dom - is this all the same for a boat sale? Just wondering, because the OP is asking about selling a Tahoe boat, not a Chevy Tahoe.

                yeah it's all the same.

but I thought he was selling a tahoe truck. whoops.

my brother tags stuff quiet often, and there is a form you fill out for the title transfer, then everyone just cover's their @$$ and does a bill of sale and gets copies of the buyers/sellers info. sign the title and then bang.

I actually bought my boat out of state last fall and brought it into Texas.

My bank told me I have to take the trailer empty and get it weighed and certified and bring the certificate to them BEFORE I can get it registered.

Strangest thing I've ever heard. I guess come spring I'll dump my buddy off down at the lake and go get the trailer certified.

Anyone else think that's a little fishy to have to do that?

Doms, thanks for the info. Wake, that does sound fishy to me but i have no experience with that. You should call Texas Parks and Wildlife and just ask them if that's standard practice.

                            Nice looking boat.

Even comes with some wetsounds 80's from the look of it.

It did indeed. It's loud. Can't wait to get behind it.
