Well I have to tell the whole story. It was October 12th 2008 when my wife received a call to pick up a brand new baby from the hospital for the Foster system. The baby was actually born on the 2nd and was being held in the hospital until all the complications it had were gone. So they told her she could not pick up the baby until the 17th. She was told it was an emergency placement. That is all she took in anyways and she only took new Born's. So she was excited to get her 14th baby in a year and have in our home for 2 to 3 weeks.
Now I have to tell you another part of this before I finish. In the foster emergency care system here, the county will skip over you if you are not ready when you are called to pick up the baby with in two hours from the time they call to tell you that the baby is ready to be picked up.
The placement worker ensured my wife that the baby would not be ready until after the weekend and she would be safe to head 2 hours north to attend our oldest sons band competition. So we head north on the 14th to the competition. As we were pulling up to the band competition the on call placement worker called her and said the baby was ready to be picked up at the hospital.
There was no way we could get back into town in time to get the baby with in two hours so they should have gone to the next placement family on the list. But the on call worker said she needed to call the regular full time worker (supervisor). The full time worker knows my wife very well (fortunately). The part time worker was instructed to go pick up the baby for us until we could get back into town after the band comp at around 1:00am. This never happens. It is against policy. So the part time worker said that there must be a reason the supervisor really wants this baby in our home and she picked up the baby for us from the hospital and took it back to the children's center until my wife arrived.
Now for the rest of the story. We had know idea what the situation was with this baby. We did not know if it was going up for adoption, if it was going into the foster system, if family was going to take care of it. Ect Ect. But we were at a meeting for church on a Saturday night and the speaker was talking about how sometimes we think we know what is best for us and we have our life all figured out and are on course to complete our plans. But then the lord throws a loop into our plans. The question is are we going to take advantage of that blessing or are we going to pass it up and the many other that will occur from that one over time.
With out speaking to each other my wife and I had promptings individually that this baby was our daughter. Of course we both were in denial until after the meeting and we were able to talk to each other about what we felt during our meeting.
Now to shorten this up as if it is not long enough. There is so much more to the story but we decided we would adopt this baby if possible if she went up for adoption. The case worker came the next week and said that this baby would probably go up for adoption.
All the classes, preparation, and things we needed to do to become pre adopt family was going to take about three months. We were at risk of loosing this baby to families that are waiting for a baby to adopt. I will not say how we were spared the time to accomplish this other than it was a MIRACLE and the LORD had his hand in this from the start.
So now on Feb. 26th 2010 she will be our daughter and on the 27th she will be our daughter for time and all eternity some of you know what I mean.
She is a huge fan of the boat and wake-boarding. She gets mad when she can not get in the water and wake-board or surf with us. I use the little surf rope handle and give it to her so she is part of the boarding. At rider change times she gets out on the swim deck with me. Here is a pic of her pointing to her favorite boat brand. She can see if from her room every day and when it is not where it is supposed to be she gets all worried and walks around the house saying boat boat and pointing to where it is supposed to be.
The other is a 4 month old pic that shows here 24/7 personality even when she gets in trouble. She just laughs and smiles at us. She will certainly be Daddy's little girl and wake boarding partner. and Mommies little dancer. She can not help her self when the music starts she is shaking and moving to the beat.
