    Need suggestions on Texas

Purchased our first boat end of last boating season. (01' 21i) We are looking for a nice lake/river for a family vacation. We live in Houston so this place needs to be either in the hill country or piney woods. LBJ, Buchanan, McQueeny, Sam Rayburn come to mind. The main thing is the lake needs to be nice and not something that's just a cluster of boats if you know what I mean.
Looking for a rental house big enough or multiple cabins we could rent for a family of 14.

    Thanks

When I lived in San Antonio I really liked Inks Lake. A small lake that is not crowded and very little boat traffic. The only difficulty is that there are no cabin rental facilities close of which I am aware.

      Lake LBJ

Last summer we stayed on the Colorado arm of Lake LBJ at Log Country Cove http://www.logcountrycove.com/ . IT has a bunch of really, really nice log cabins, big and small.

Also look into Horseshoe Bay (also lake LBJ), a little pricier but very nice

I have not been to Inks Lake in years, but it is a really nice constant level lake. Inks Lake State Park has cabins & camping spots for rent - but cabins go very quickly.

Well, I'll be hornswaggled. They finally put cabins at one of the jewels of the hill country. I used to always camp as they had really nice camp sites.

As for constant level, well mostly with at least one exception. One time when we camped we got woken by the park ranger at 2:00 in the morning because the water was rising. We had a campsite on the shore and had to move to across the road. Only happened once and we must have camped there probably 40 times in the 15 years I was in SA.

            Wonderful little lake.

I would recommend Bethy Creek Resort just south of Huntsville TX. It is very inexpensive and the trinity river is right there! BUTTA ALL DAY LONG... Not a lot of traffic out there either. I took my family there for Texas Tige Owners Reunion this past October and we had a blast. I also did a guys weekend in the summer and again, it was a blast. Check it out!! Randall Jr. is who you want to talk to when making reservations. Tell him you know the guys over at Texas Tige. Hope this helps!! It's a lot closer then the hill country. My Buddy Austin South Side went with me on the guys weekend and he wants to make it a yearly gig. kvon

                Lake LBJ

We take a trip to Lake LBJ every year. I would highly recommend it. It does get busy on the weekends, but if you stay on the water, you can get out early and ski. On the weekdays it usually isn't too bad, but again, I recomend hitting it early to be assured some butter. The Colorado Arm is the best place to stay IMO. Log Country Cove looks very nice and we plan to stay there for the first time this summer. In the past we have rented houses using the www.highlandlakes.com website.
If you're lucky enough to live on the lake, you're lucky enough.

Possum Kindom Lake is always nice except for holiday weekends. Unless your into to the girls gone wild sort of thing. haha

Check out Canyon Lake beween Austin & SA. You can get cabins in Wimberely but it will not be on the water. I have not been there but hope to this summer.

I am also in Houston and also purchased a Tige at the end of last season. Where do you usually go in Houston?

If you want a deserted lake, try Lake Buchanan. I have a house there and if we see 50 boats on a holiday weekend, it's busy. The lake is huge and has lots of unique features, including a set of waterfalls you can drive your boat under. Lake levels on Lake Buchanan (and Lake Travis) are pretty low, but we're hoping the spring rains fill them up again.

If you go, by far the best place to stay is Canyon of the Eagles Lodge. There's a couple of other places as well.

We have a family farm near Fayette County Lake, so we went there the first two times. I knew the lake and boat ramp well from growing up skiing there. I checked out the San Bernard River, fun but brackish water. Then the weather got cold. Looking to hit Trinity (Bethy Creek) as soon as the temps pick up. That will probably become our most frequent spot, close and fresh water. I am with wife and two boy's 12 & 16 this summer.

Canyon of the eagles seems more of a resort. Looking for rental home on the water with boat dock/house.

                            Thanks

My coworker has a farm north of Schulneberg. Are you over that way? He has been bugging me to go to the Fayette County Lake with my boat. How is it? Isn't that the lake that is heated by the power plant?
