    Lighted Boat Parade

I decided to participate in a lighted boat parade this weekend. Lewiston has not had a lighted boat parade since 1999 so they decided to try it again.
I have a side job DJing weddings so I thought it would be fun to attach my DJ lights to the tower and crank christmas tunes from the tower speakers.
I learned several things. A 350 watt inverter will power 4 led disco lights. It will completely drain a 12 volt car battery in less than 30 minutes. It will also run from the cigarette lighter in the glove compartment of the Tige. It will drain a single boat battery even if the engine is running in about 1 hour. Thereafter the boat must run at a minimum 1500 rpm to keep the lights running. (I was also running the heater, stereo, nav lights, docking lights, and courtesy lights).
The water temp was 48 degrees so the heater was not very effective when the engine only runs at idle speed but we had lots of blankets and hot chocolate to keep us warm.
All things considered, we had a blast following all the boats around the river. Lots of people lined the shores to watch the show. Next year I think I'll borrow a generator from a friend and really deck out the boat. Maybe with a wakesurfing santa.
    Beats a caroling hay ride!!!!!
