Does the RZ4 need ballast for excellent wake surfing?

    All,

I am seriously considering buying a used 2008 or 2009 RZ4 or MC X-35. After a great deal of research I am leaning 60/40 towards the RZ4 mainly for price. My question is, I love to wake skate and wake board but wake surfing is my top priority and I want to know if you recommend I purchase an RZ4 with the optional ballast based on this? Further if you have time, could you share why you would prefer an RZ4 vs a X-35.

    Thanks from Vancouver Canada!

I have never surfed an RZ4 but I am sure you can make a great surf wake out of it.

I loved an X-35 that I demo'd but it is kind of hard to get over the whole sink console. If I bought a used one, I would literally take the chopsaw to it and make an additional seat extension there. New ones can be gotten without the fridge. A bit of fiberglass work and that would be a pretty sweet little spot there.

I would always get ballast. I do not know of a boat that does not need any ballast to be able to surf. Almost always, it is the more the better. I always end up with 'ballastitis' the disease you get when you wish you had more ballast, it is incredibly common.
    Be excellent to one another.

I voted yes but if there is a big savings without it might be ok because there is lots of room for enzo sacks. I test drove one with factory ballast and would still need exta sacks but was a good start.

You will still need extra ballast even with the factory ballast for surfing...or lots of big friends

          Yes.

Does the used 08 RZ4 have the factory ballast? If not the Fly High W712 Enzo is a perfect fit. It also fits the 09 w/wo factory ballast.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am looking a few different 08's but very few seem to have the factory ballast. WRT...the comment on after market ballast, any idea what that would cost to put in a 2008 or 2009 RZ4?

Depending on what sacs you chose, your looking at about $1200 for pumps and plumbing for a 3-pump system.

Voted yes. "Excellent" won't be accomplished without it.

When I got my RZ2, I looked really hard at the X-35. Other than the sink area, I loved the layout and a lot of the features. For me it came down to price, and I like the convex v hull and taps. I have no regrets (other than I wish I had snap out carpet).

Own an RZ4...the answer is yes. And the more the better. Didn't think an X35 had a sink, thought that was X55?

Don't have an RZ4, but you could always talk to SPBfan and have him set you up with a custom instal ballast where you could put as much in as you wanted, always have room to ad more, and will fill so much faster then factory, yet it will appear factory...... just my
