Almost every time i am filling up with gas in my 08 Z1 the gas backs up and spews out of the tank..... it seems not to matter how fast i fill the tank, no matter how full the tank is and no matter how far the gas pump nozzle is in there.... i have changed all variables, except for the one that prevents me and my boat from getting gas all over the freakin place..... any help out there ?????

try with bow down.
When bow up gas fills "the fill neck" before the bow and then air needs to get out from the high spot (the bow) and the only way out is to push the gas in the neck out first.
(It works for me but it took a year to learn) "bow down is good"Last edited by chadster2; 10-26-2009, 12:28 AM.

One of the nurses took an amniotic fluid shower last night....if that makes you feel any better.
My vent valve starts to vent vapors about 30 seconds before the tank is filled. Once I start seeing the fuzziness from the gas vapors coming out of the vent valve I know I am pretty close and just stop

Awwwe the gas shower...
I have had a couple with my Z1 too. It happened to me the very first time I filled up this summer. Gas all over the place, even inside the boat !! At first I thought it was just the pump, but it has happened one other time since.
I usually go over to the window washing bucket and grab some paper towels and wrap them around the nozzel once I begin pumping and that has helped.Last edited by Kvon; 10-26-2009, 02:57 AM.

Some tips to help:
1) I use a gas station that has an island that is sloped down and away from the pump, and pull in on the low side so the fill opening side is higher than the other side. That helps significantly with decreasing gas burps.
2) I hold a big wad of paper towels under the fill nozzle as the gas is flowing. Any burp is usually caught by the towels.
3) Do not try and overfill!! Shut off at the first click and leave it. Especially if you make a very tight seal against the fill opening and overfill the tank. The tank might expand slightly, and when you pull out, gas shower. Sometimes it helps to hold the fill handle upside down as you pump the gas.
These tips are for land filling. You're on your own when trying to fill on the water at a marina.

Yup...I open both gas caps, go on slowest setting, try to listen, but still get doused now and then. I have started packing a couple paper towels around the nozzle while I fill, and it seems to help by catching the worst. At least so far it has helped.
BTW - be careful with opening both caps. The first time I did that, the side opposite from the nozzle was slightly lower than the filling side (slight sideways hill next to the pump). The gas shower that time shot out the non-filling side. That was an interesting lesson.

I carry extra shop towels in the truck, when I gas up, I wrap the towel around the nozzle and then push it up against the boat. It does not stop the burping but it stops the shower and the gas from running down the side of the boat, which softens up the decals. Sometimes it does not burp. If it does and the rag smells like gas, I dump it into the trash can at the gas station. I tried paper towels but the burp was too much and they got soaked all the way through. I also carry a bottle of cheap shampoo/body wash in my transom glove box. In the event I get splashed, I will take take a lake shower as soon as we get on the water, so I don't smell like gas all day.

My MC does this too, so I think that no boat manufacturer is immune.
Opening the other gas cap is a huge help.
Paper towels help to stop the spray, but I still always get the drizzle down the side.Be excellent to one another.

Happens on my 22V. I think I have almost perfected as I haven' gotten a shower in a long time.
I can only fill up on the lake because I don't have a trailer. But I do is 1. The smoother the better. While filling up in chop I'm almost certain to get a shower. I try to wait for smoother times and stop the pump if big rollers are coming in. 2. Tip the gas pump handle up side down (so the end of the nozzle is the lowest point). Any time I put the nozzle/handle in like you would with a car i'm about to get a shower. 3. I never use one of the places on the handle to hold it in place by itself. I control the flow manually, therefore if you hear it getting close or have a wave coming in you can slow down or stop filling.
Just somethings I have found out and it works pretty good for me. Not so good for the girl at the boat dock that helps people fill up, who ends up with gas on her legs from thighs down.
