    Speedo Issues

So I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction...

The speedometer on my perfectpass isn't working. I can still set it off RPM and I've just been sticking my handheld garmin in the cupholder so far, but I'd like to get it working again.

I thought the most likely cause is a problem with the paddlewheel.

So there are two paddlewheels. One is on the very back of the boat beside the taps plate. The other one is way up under the boat by the tracking fins.

I think the one up by the tracking fins is for the perfectpass. What's the wheel on the back of the boat do?

The other thing is I crawled up under the boat and I can't see any problem with the paddlewheel. It spins just fine and I can't see any of the spindles broken.

My question is should I replace the wheel anyway or is there something else going on?

Appreciate any pointers you guys have...

If it's in the realm of possibility, I'd get the Stargazer GPS and not worry about paddle wheels. I absolutely LOVE mine. It's been incredible.
It is of course going to cost more than fixing what you have. I can't offer any advice for ya there, since I know nothing about them.
Not very helpful, sorry. Can't go wrong with the GPS though.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Yeah, I'm down with the GPS for accurate speed reading, but I'd like to be able to set the cruise off of MPH too. Does a Stargazer control the throttle like perfectpass?

Ok, so I googled stargazer and it is a perfect pass product. Very cool

Well I figured I might as well get in there and replace the paddle wheel and at least eliminate that from the possibilities. I actually think it might solve the problem.

Going out tomorrow to test it out.

Well no dice. Went out yesterday and still no speed reading on either the Wakeboard Pro or the Faria.

W/ Stargazer you can use either MPH or RPM to set the speed. Yes, it controls the throttle for you. Mine stays within +/- .1 mph at surfing speeds and not much worse at all while wakeboarding. With the gps, my actual speed is much more accurate than using my regular speedos. I'd buy it again in a second!

If you have 2 speedos and neither one is showing speed you have something more than one bad wheel. Check the wiring to the guages, make sure they have power and a proper ground. Seems very odd that your speedos wouldn't work but the rest of your gauges do work. I haven't heard that problem yet. Good luck.

...of course, it's hard to feel too bad for you, you're still USING your boat while mine is hibernating Lucky you.

What version of perfect pass do you currently have? Is it single line display?

Mine says it's a Wakeboard Pro. It's a single line display.

Yeah, I'm thinking I must have some sort of electrical problem where the info from the paddle isn't getting to the displays. You know on my Faria I noticed yesterday it's not reading water temp either... Not sure if that's related or not, but maybe I have a bad wire or loose connection somewhere.

And yes, I do feel lucky just to get out there and ride, MPH or no

As far as the perfect pass paddlewheel goes, I would check the connection at tha master module. Make sure its snug.

Or You can update your system and go GPS with stargazer. As you may already know that will cost you around $670, but its well worth it.

Yeah, when I was down by the gas tank changing out the paddlewheel I checked the connection there and it seemed fine. I'll check up under the dash next.

Sadly I think any upgrades to the perfectpass are a no go for me right now. I just got the boat and next spring I want to get some ballast for the back and learn to surf.
