2010 Diesel Toyota Tundra/Sequoia

I know how you guys are always talking about diesel for towing and I ran across this while looking for something else.

That article was dated January 2008. The economy tanked badly in the summer of 08. I wonder if that is why we have not heard anything of it since.

Ya, since diesel went through the ruff Toyota has pretty much shut this down. That is what Automotive news said, haven't heard anything about Toyota and diesels since then.

nah heard about this awhile ago, project apparantly tanked cause of the economy and honestly, who wants to buy a foreign diesel? I know hino makes a great motor, but have you guys seen the videos of the tundra at the proving grounds? Its terrible. They look trick but ill still stay ford all the way.

I would only look at a Toyota diesel if they came in a 1 ton.
Not sure how well Ford's half ton diesel is going to sell.

All of the Powerstrokes are made in Mexico. Isn't that foreign?

Duramax is Isuzu.

Powerstrokes manufactured by Navistar International are assembled in Indianapolis, Indiana and Huntsville, Alabama.( I toured the Huntsville Plant before the "falling out")

The Dodge Ram is assembled in Mexico. The Cummins Diesel for their application is assembled in Rocky Mount, NC. Their larger marine and over the road trucks are assembled in Jamestown, NY.

To be technical VERY FEW of the major car manufacturers makes everything for the engines and assembled in house. I only know of a couple and they are expensive Italian grocery getters.

As for Toyota and having a capable diesel. I would have no doubt they would produce a great engine. Ever heard of Hino? In 2003 Toyota Motor Corporation acquired a majority ownership of Hino Motors, Ltd. Their reliability is legendary.

cause those are 09 trucks.

Im not talking about the quality of a foreign diesel. Im solely doubting the quality of the truck itself....I wouldnt trust that frame to beable to maintain any control during trailering ofl any weight at all.

Ford has done that same video with Chevy and Dodge, as well as toyota. I can assure you, that Toyota didnt act that way right off a dealers lot, it took a little (ok, a lot ) of tinkering to get the desired results out of both trucks.

Sorry for posting up an old article. I just saw it talking about the 2009/2010 dates. I thought Toyota has been producing diesel engines outside the US for years? When I was looking for more info. I found a guy importing diesel Land Cruisers from Canada. I thought there was diesel trucks in other countries as well?

I know Audi has gotten behind the diesel market. I saw one last year at my son's high school auto show. It was incredible quiet. You would never know it was a diesel, that is for sure.

It's a bummer they aren't going to produce the truck. I think it is good to have options.
