The foreign mfr's are probably better at diesel's than the US guys...definitely in smaller stuff. The US is so far behind in diesels that it isn't even funny! Hino's are super reliable as is the Mercedes Sprinter (once called a Dodge). Hopefully someday American's will figure out that the diesel is more efficient and can make better power.

I would go buy any Toyota I wanted in one second with NO HESITATIONS! My Tundra has been rock solid...even on the original stock rear shocks after 170k+ miles. No problems in anyway whatsoever with it. Regular oild changes, 2 new front struts, and a set of brakes in 8 years is pretty freaking incredible. I'd buy a Toyota desiel in a skinny minute!
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

we have had cruiser diesels here for as long as i can remember... we have a diesel troop carrier, which is another version of the landcruiser, its fantastic.. plenty of torque and a lot more economical than an equivalent petrol motor..

do you guys all use petrol engines in those big trucks?

Yep! Toyota and Nissan don't sell Diesels here in the US. VW/Audi/BMW have just started pushing diesel within the last year (VW has had diesels but never pushed them).

My first choice of a heavy duty truck would be Dodge/ Cummins. They are the BEST diesel engine company with the best products, period. Dodge makes a great truck too. I own a 2004 1500 hemi quadcab, lifted, and modded. and I own a 2000 ram 3500 with a Cummins, and this truck will pull the A^%hole out of an elephant. I got 18 mpg towing my boat through the mountains at 55 and 75 on flat highway for 260 miles round trip this weekend.

My 2010 4X Trunda doesn't shake, I wonder if they replaced the Tundra shocks with old worn out units then shot the video??

I was immediately skeptical when I saw that it was done at ford's test center.

wow, that seems a shame... we have found diesels are much more efficient in large cars/trucks (and even in little ones these days), we would never buy a pertrol 4x4, they just drink way too much... i think the petrol nissan patrol does something like 18-20 litres per 100km... whereas the diesels are around the 12 or so mark..

those ford f150/250/3... etc must use so much fuel?? how many litres per 100km are you getting with those?

All I can say is I own a 2008 Toyota Tundra and I pull my 24V no problems at all 16 MPGs all the way to Vegas and back. I sure did pass a lot of F-150 and some 250s pulling trailers up the hills. I am sure they were not driving as fast as I was either but I still passed them . I love my truck. It rides very nice and it so far has been very very reliable unlike my Friends who has had his 2010 F150 in the shop 8 time since he bought it and it now has a total of 4k miles on it.

There is more to the Tundra than what is being shown. What is funny is how these manufactures all have there good and bad points and each one finds the others bad to point it out.

Over all today all cars, trucks are pretty good and you have to know that all of them will have issues that need to be fixed and repaired because they are all built by human beings.

What is important is you purchase what fits your needs as evey one has diffrent needs and wants in somthing when the purchase it.

The reason why more diesels aren't sold in the US is not due to lack of technology or product. The EPA has very strict emission standards, more strict than Europe. Ford has a small footprint diesel that gets around 60mpg in Europe now, but does not offer it in the US.

Generally a diesel will pull a load using less fuel than gasoline. The energy content of a gallon of diesel is greater than that of gasoline. So your Toyota Tundra, if you like it pulling with a gas engine, will run more efficiently running a diesel engine.

All diesel trucks in the US after the 2008 model year had to redesign the engines to meet new emission standards. All are using a type of modification called a particulate filter, which catches the diesel soot coming out to the engine, when the filter fills up, the ECM injects fuel into it and burns the soot off. So all new diesel trucks in the US are less efficient than they used to be, and engines need to be larger to produce the same horsepower.

I have a 2008 Ford F-350, and pull a 17,000 lb. trailer with it. The only trucks that can pull that weight are made by Ford, Dodge or Chevy (unless you get a mid range truck). The frame and structure of the truck, as well as the transmission components are just as, or even more important than the engine.

That being said, I don't think that there are any wake/ski boats that a Toyota Tundra can't pull, but when you pull a 24v with a one ton truck, it handles the weight alot better, less sway, porpoising, over/understeer, etc.

F150's get in the 15 mile per gallon range.... typically a little less than that. Gasser Superdutys (the 250's and 350's) with the 5.8L or the V10 get terrible milage. The diesels get pretty good milage tho

The cummins is a great motor. But not to rain on your parade, but the dodge truck its self is a piece of garbage. I like to call them a shipping crate for the cummins. Those trucks really are crap....especially the 1500. Im sorry but i would never ever buy one. Ford by far makes the best truck around, but dodge has the power locked away in the cummins. The cummins is one baad mo fo haha. Plus there whole "Hemi"line up is a marketing gimmick. Unless your sole reason to buy dodge is for the cummins, idk what to say

I saw some moron driving a GASSER mega cap pulling a trailer.
you cant fix stupid. He got the worst of both worlds
