    Clarion Radio - Ipod adapter???

I have a 08 22ve with a Clarion CMD5 radio. I would like to hook my ipod up to it but I'm not sure what my options are. Is there an auxillary plug anywhere on the radio or do you have to buy the CeNet interface?

    Thanks!

You should be able to use the USB line in, or the MP3 line in. The CeNet connector doesn't allow you to use the IPOD's interface, you have to use the head unit's.

Unfortunately, the CMD5 does not have USB, but there a few options:

1st is easiest and cheapest. Off the back of the head-unit, there are a pair of RCA plugs with red wire leads. These are the "AUX In" for such devises as MP3's. All you need is a cable with the 3.5mm headphone plug on one end and left & right male RCA's. Plug it up, select AUX on the head-unit and go.

Now, this requires that the cable be strung out of the storage door to the MP3, so to clean this up, you can get a remote socket that is a female 3.5mm on one end and the 2 male RCA's on the other. This remote socket is a bulk-head type adapter and can be mount through the glove box, or in the helm, with the use of a set of RCA extension cables to reach from the helm to the head-unit. The remote sockets are cheap, and the double-ended 3.5mm cables are cheap.

The last option will give you the best sound quality and also allow for charging of the Ipod (yes, it's Ipod only) while plugged in. Clarion's CCA-Ipod Cnet Ipod interface can be mounted at the driver's helm, but needs and extension cable. It will allow for full control of the Ipods play lists and will give you the best sound quality as it it using the interface plug on the bottom of the Ipod, not the headphone jack. Again, this is using the head-units Cnet interface and mates with only Ipods, and not all models, I dont think. MSRP is $60, but they can be found for less.

Does the adapter have a screen, or do you use the Ipod?

No Screen, you use the Ipod just like normal

Clarion CCA-Ipod or the Remote AUX socket.

The 2009 Tige has an Ipod interface cable in the glove box, and you have to use the head unit as the screen. I didn't see in the manual how to change it. Is this the same interface?

Where does it plug into the Ipod - bottom or headphone jack? If it plugs into the bottom, it's a true interface (1st pic) and is using the Cnet, if it plugs into the headphone jack, it's using the head unit AUX in (2nd pic). Either one still uses the Ipod's control and screen.

I have a similar question, I have the CMD 4 and I bought the I-pod hook up pictured above (c-net). I have Sirius Satellite radio right now so my I-pd connection is plugged into that and I have to be on satellite channel 0 for my I-pod to work but it only works about half the time. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to solve this??

From what I have read the CeNet adapter is pretty picky on what ipod you have. Here is a note i found on what won't work with it:

Note: Update your iPod to the latest software before connecting to the CCAIPOD. This iPod adapter is not compatible with iPhone 3G, iPod touch (1st/2nd generation), or iPod nano (3rd/4th generation)

1st, just make sure the Cnet cables are plugged into the correct sockets on the Sat receiver. Next, what mode are you using to listen to the Ipod, it sounds like you have it in SAT mode, because it is trying to come through on chnl 0. It's my understanding that the SAT and CD Changer boxes act as a pass-thru for other Cnet devices, so when you want to listen to another Cnet device, the signal will just pass through the box, but I dont think this works if the head unit is set on the mode, or device, that you want to pass-thru. In other words, if you want to listen to the Ipod through Cnet, you cant have the head unit on SAT, or that's what the head unit will give you. Have you tried putting the head unit in CD or AUX mode?

Yeah I just don't know why I can use the same i-pod and it works sometimes. I thought it had to do with connecting it through the satellite, or having the 4 instead of 4a.

chpthril I've tried Aux and it does nothing, I do have to turn it to aux then to sat ch. 0 before i get good sound when it is working. Sometimes when I plug it in to the bottom of my I-pod my I-pod screen will just say Clarion and that's when it won't work at all. For it to work when I plug it in it needs to keep on the main I-pod screen so I can select the music. Is anyone else running satellite radio and their I-pod with no problems and if so with which head unit?

If you go this rout make sure it is a stereo RCA and extension cable. A lot of times guys will go buy one at Radio Shack and they end up with Mono RCA cable and extension cables. Radio Shack does carry the stereo also. What ever cables you buy be sure to get stereo or you won't like the output you get from your Ipod or MP3 player. You will think something is wrong.

Yes, as noted in my original post, get a cable that has 2 RCA plugs, one is left, one it right, that = stereo.

Doesn't the CMD-4 require a different ipod adaptor which runs about $100? That's what I was reading on crutchfield.com
