    FYI on powell rangers

Be aware that rangers in lake powell are now using unmarked fishing boats for patrol, we were getting some "boat Kharma" and stopping riding for a red crestliner coming up on our port, thinking he might be in trouble, ya it was a trueblue ranger, gun toting and all. Next thing you know driver is doing a BUI test in the rangers boat, good thing he had actually only had a couple beers and passed. Could of been superbad but instead just scared the crap out of us.

    Be careful out there

Good information. If some retard in a fishing boat starts waving his arms at me, I probably won't stop. Am I then going to get busted for not stopping? Did they have some kind of hidden siren or lights so that you know to stop for them?

I had heard they do have some 'civilian patrol' or some such nonsense. Usually just a couple of retired folks with 30 minutes of training who go out and try to find people breaking laws. But those would not have been gun toting and authorized to do BUI testing and everything.

Like CHP said, as long as I really am not doing anything wrong, I should not have to fear. If I drank a 40 Ounce beer in 30 seconds and then drive the boat, I should be worried because my BA would probably be over the limit.
          Be excellent to one another.

Good to know, headed down there next Friday and usually never see the fish cops down there in the late fall.

It was the helmet wasn't it!? They told me to take it off but I never listen.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

this guy was a true gun toting officer and had no lights or outwared ID on his boat. He then started checking every boat we could see for their fishing licenses and gave 3 more bui tests....At least he was a nice guy about it all.

It's pretty simple folks. If you are the driver, wait till you get to shore to have your pops. This is especially true if you have skiiers, boarders or kids on tubes in the water. Is your thirst for a beer worth endangering the life of your or someone else's kid?

And how blanking tough is it to get a fishing license????

Keep your nose clean and you have nothing to worry about.

One other thing on Powell - it is illegal for an alcoholic beverage to be within reach of the driver. My buddy got a $100+ ticket on the last day of our trip last year because my other buddy had set his beer in the drivers side cupholder when the Ranger pulled up (which we were on our way to the friggen boat ramp). He (the driver) hadn't even been drinking and he still got the ticket, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

I was completely unaware of that. Sounds like the equivalent to a car's open container law.

Better make a note of it, we'd hate to see you caught with a beer within your reach (and that is a long reach).
