    side yard boat storage

it was about 2 years ago when i almost bought a 22v after the 20v i tested was sold, but my FJ wasn't able to tow it so i decided to wait on the purchase. luckily, that was a great decision based on how the economy turned out. i have since moved into a new house which is on a corner and i have the opportunity to redo some exterior walls to make room for boat storage on my side yard. can anyone help with how wide i should make sure the inside dimension is? i am not worried about the length, but not having a boat in hand i am unsure about the width. i would like to be able to buy a 22v within the next year or two or if a good deal comes up on a used rz2 than pick up one of those.

the boat has a beam of 102" i think i would account for the trailer and to make it easy i would go 130" at least. that should give you a foot on each side.

I have a 10' gravel pad with an 11.5 wide gate opening.

for some reason i was thinking more was needed i have room for about 20' outside dimension which will give me about 18' clear inside. i guess i can make it smaller and create a larger court yard for the front. that's actually some really good news since it should cut down my budget and save a little money.

Give yourself as much room as possible. I didn't, and it is a real pain. If you ever get a bigger boat or rv or something you might need the extra space?

I store my boat in a 12'x12'x40' storage unit and it's not an easy task to back that thing in while turning (which I have to since the units are only 30' or so apart) so I would make it at least 12' wide IMO.

agree w/above at least 12' if you have the room it appears.

Now that i think about it you should make it about the size an RV is because if you ever sell the house you could gain a bigger market with RV/Boat storage.

It can never be too big. You will want enough room to be able to walk around the boat once it's in there. I would want at least 2 feet all the way around which puts you at 12'-6" minimum. Go bigger if you can.

My rental storage unit is 17' by 35' and works out just right. I have been in narrower units and it is difficult to walk around and do tires and stuff. It is also more difficult on narrower units to back it in with little room for error.

that's what i was thinking also, but the length of it won't really hold an rv unless it's around the size of a boat. part of moving the walls is making more room for a pool which if an rv is parked there it might have the chance to interfere. i am in the process right now drawing everything up in cad so i can start getting quotes on everything. maybe if i just make it wide enough i might still be able to get the RV name in there for the future.
