    alternate power sources

I have two 12v power sources on my boat, one on the helm and one inside the glove box. Both work, but when I plugged our air pump into them to air up the tube while on the water the pump would cut out after a while and I would have to wait a couple minutes before the power would come back. Is this some sort of power saving device for the battery?? The air pump works fine when plugged into the car 12v adapter. What can I do to remedy this or is their something wrong with my electrical??

Sounds like it has an auto-reset breaker that is tripping. May need to replace it with one that is about 5A's higher in rating.

where would this stuff be located, under the helm? I need to get more familiar with my boat and find out where fuse boxes are located etc. I also need a course in how to operate a volt meter so I can check wiring etc etc..

No tell'n where it could be located. Could be in-line or at a fuse/breaker box.

You can buy a decent DVOM (digital volt/ohm meter) at Radio Shake or a lowes or Home Depot. A 12V powered test light also makes a dandy test tool.
